Based on few hearings , I am slowly getting a little more drive to hear palakkad ramprasad. Also this place nadasudha on a working day is to an extent great as you can just make it considering traffic snarls to hit carnatic hotspot zones which is mile ah pour.
Ramprasad started with a nice viribOni. The voice was deep and bhairavi is also a deep raga , bit of a more sharpness in 2nd speed in chirunavvu would have been better , both he and narendran did not pep up the speed . I love arabi drop of #2, ramprasad sang in a clinical fashion , the neraval in the usual line of agama showed a certain class in his neraval singing. Swaras were also crisp and covered adequate contours of arabi.
Ramaprasad's thatha's dearest musician came in next . Begada alapana bit was excessively theoretical and I did not like it that much but the tiruppavai was sung with a lot of weight. The contrast of shree ranjani was a great choice , little more pep from mrudangist would have been better but nagai sriram was holding the raga bhavam so tightly with his accurate sangathis in both begada and shree ranjani , i felt he did overall a great job.
I thought a certain loosening with a bit flashy raga that has more momentum would have pepped but he taking saranga just was not my cup of tea. The alapana was very excessive sampradayish and i would have liked if he had sung with bit more gusto .
What a joy it was to hear when he went with a jujavanti main. I have tasted only once in a boot recording of tiruvanaikaval trichy concert where a jujavanti akilandeshwari was sung as main . This is just absolutely great . It was not sung just to show off that I am taking a different raga as main. His jujavanti showed how he presents with such intensity ,where with neraval and more importantly with a longer cycle of keezh kala swaras just brings so much of missing aesthetics . It was worth for me to hear ramaprasad to hear his jujavanti . At many places I heard a stentoriran pitch of KVN at its best with a gamaka seating of Ramnad krishnan .
Post that the sabha seceratary was willing to give more time . This is where Ramprasad himself thought it was his last number . Ramanai taruvai in SK was way too crisp , the bhavayami raghuramam in yamunakalyani is usually not taken by many male artist and he sang well but the last desh Rama namame was the best . I wish he had known that this sabha gives more time and not have the usual 2 hours ,at times musicians themselves thinking that it is just a 2 hour + concert . I came at 06 25 pm where the stage was already vacated , the artist were there but they could have gone to the dias quickly they just started bit late as ramprasad went briefly out .I am not complaining but a 15 to 30 mins difference in duration is a huge difference . I wish he sang an RTP .
Nagai sriram is a spectacular artist , his bowing and returns were clean , sriram has thin frame but the press is so thick and right. Trichur Narendran was bit caught in law of average , little more patterns would have helped immensely and a bit more power would have helped. His tani was a demonstration more of quality of mrudangam nAdham .The varying patterns did not register that well in me, may be he caught up with season fatigue.
Overall a very good to excellent concert
