Hello all,
I am a long time student of carnatic music and I am interested in buying a tambura and bringing it to the US. Does anyone have experience bringing in a tambura as checked luggage or some other way? I'd appreciate any information anyone has.
Thanks

Re: Tambura Purchase
Hello MShreyas,
I bought a tambura recently and brought it as hand baggage. I travelled Jet Airways and Delta and both flights let me carry it as hand baggage. I also had a small backpack as hand baggage in addition to the tambura.
I brought the Tanjore style flat back tambura and it comes with a convenient carry case.
Bringing instruments as checked in baggage could damage the instrument as you can not be sure that it will be handled with care.

Talk to VV Sundaram or any other event organizer in the US... they have the experience of sending multiple tamburas every yr to the US from Chennai
