Navaratri vocal concert - Smt. Subiksha Kothandaraman - Sept 27, 2019 @ Sivamani residence, Bay Area

Vocal: Smt. Subiksha Kothandaraman (my guru), accompanied by Sri. Papanasam Gokul on violin and Sri. Ramesh Srinivasan on mridangam.

Subiksha set the pace for the evening's concert with a sprightly rendition of the Saveri varnam, "Sarasuda". Next was a not-often-heard composition of Sri. Muthuswamy Dikshithar's, "Sri Madhurambike Sri Shive Avava" (Kalyani ragam, Khanda Chapu talam) with a set of elegantly weaved kalpanaswarams at the pallavi line. She followed this with a leisurely alapana showcasing almost all of the prayogams of Reetigowlai, followed by a rendition of Sri. Subbaraya Sastri's "Janani Ninnu Vina" (Misra Chapu talam). This was followed by a popular piece loved by all audiences, "Rama Nannu Brovara" (Harikambodhi ragam, Roopaka talam). An engaging sequence of neraval phrases followed at "Meppulakai kannataavu" in the charanam. After an enrapturing rendition of this piece, she moved onto yet another rare yet peppy piece, "Vijayambike" (Vijayanagari ragam, Adi talam), by H. N. Mutthiah Bhagavathar. She then moved onto her main piece for the night with a comprehensive alapana in Thodi followed by "Enduku Dayaradu" (Thodi ragam, Triputa talam). This comprised a solid neraval essay and fast-paced kalpanaswaram passages at "Thyagaraja vinuta" in the charanam. Subiksha then rendered a charming thukda, "Kanden Naan" (Behag ragam, Adi talam). She signed off in style with "Mahadeva Shiva Shambho" (Revathi ragam, Adi talam), a Thanjavur Shankara Iyer composition, then ending with a mangalam.

She was very ably accompanied by Sri. Papanasam Gokul, whose creativity shone through beautifully in all pieces, particularly in the kalpanaswaram phrases in Kalyani ("Sri Madhurambike") and alapana transitions in Reetigowlai ("Janani Ninnu Vina"). Equally brilliant was Sri. Ramesh Srinivasan on mridangam; he is a master at anticipating each and every phrase of the singer and providing a perfect foil to wonderfully enhance audience enjoyment.

I just googled to find that DKP--> Lalita Sivakumar--> Subiksha Kothandaraman is the musical lineage . Only today i knew this artist .Best wishes to Subiksha in her musical pursuit.
