hello ranjani33,

The composer of "Kandan Karunai Puriyum Vadivel" is indeed Shri.Guhan, who was a close friend of Ganakaladhara Shri.Madurai Mani Iyer, (my Paramaguru), who popularised the song. Shri.Guhan was the brother of Smt. Pazhani Vijayalakshmi, who was a well-known singer.

The sahityam differs in certain places:

Arul Oliyodu Avi kalande
Anbum aatralum arivuM nayande
Iru Sukham Eende Idargal Kalainde
Inbura Cheydidum Iraivan Kai Vel

Vempagai......
....................
Nambum Adiyaar Nalam Valar Ponvel

Kundru Thoraalum Kumaran Arul Vel
Kolamayil Natam Konjidum Sevvel
Andam Andidum Adi Magal Nam
Annai Paraashakthi Arutchudar Vel

Best wishes

Suryaprakash R

Curious to know more about Guhan and his compositions ? One more name came in my mind is Washington Bala (Vilayada Idu nerama.........). Some unknown pearls of the Sangeetha saagaram...

'Guhan Mama'. Ah, as one of the songs he taught me goes-must have been his composition for children--he was a SAnta svarUpi. The song was 'SAnta svarUpi sattiya jOti, sAtviga mUrty mahatmA gAndhi' in a folksy brindAvana sArangA.
I doubt if I even knew his real name because we all called him Radio MamA! He produced, wrote and directed the saturday and sunday children's broadcasts from chennai--pApA malar and bAlar malar. I have such fond memories of Guhan mAmA. Even among grown ups, he was referred to as Guhan. An unnassuming man with a soft voice. If only someone would post a picture of him! As a child, I didn't much think about where a song came from. Radio mAmA would give the lyric and hum the simple tune, and we would sing. After all these years I think of him today and I realize he was like a gentle rain in my childhood.

Lakshman, CML,
Do you know the composer of ''karamchandra mOhanadAs gAndhi, maNNiDAiyE avadarittAi' sung by DKP? I have a feeling it is his song. After this viruttam, the song continues--keDumadiyALar tam koDumaigaL sahittAi.....and ends with
muDivillA kIrti peTRAi bApuji!

The Radio mama that I was familiar with was one Lakshmana Iyer who was a teacher and cubmaster in P.S.High School. We used to go to AIR Chennai with him.
I remember the song on Gandhi by DKP but have no lyrics/references available.

Lakshman,
It was only for a few years (late forties) that I enjoyed star status (solos, leading parts!) in the children's programs. I knew only Guhan as radio mama. There were specials, and some outsiders were brought in as producers. VAsavan, a well known writer in those days wrote a pongal special that I acted and sang in.

CML,
AIR might have a picture in their archives. Wish I could atleast see his face again. A sweet man...

karamchandra mohanadAs gAndhi was also on a record by DKP. Was it on the reverse side of SAnti nilava vENDum? I'm not sure.

Pazhani Vijayalakshmi (a very good singer) was his niece, I thought...

Just reviving this thread to state that Guhan's real name is K.S.Ramaswami. I managed to contact one of his close relatives and got the lyrics of his 24 compositions from her. This includes the well known kandan karuNai puriyum vaDivEl in bhImpalAs.
