The concert was amazing. Set in a serene temple atmosphere, for the navarAthri celebrations, the selection of song was apt and they were rendered perfectly making everybody enjoy the divine music. The AlApanais of pUrvikalyANi and kalyANi, were both very meticulously woven phrase after phrase making them complete and wholesome. A kriti on the presiding deity and the navAvarNam of the day were the two elaborate pieces of the day. The neraval in the pUrvikalyANi piece and the svarams were good. The svarams in Arabhi and kalyANi were nice as well. The accompanists were very supportive and made the concert more enjoyable. On the whole, it was a divine musical experience.

Lakshman: Do you have notations of ANDavan picchai's compositions?

bharath: Nice review. That pUrvikalyANi piece is rare indeed, and that line is interesting: "campakavalli ramaNam campaka pushpAbaraNam" - Consort of campakavalli and is decorated with campak flowers."

The pUrvikalyANi kriti is a dIkshitar composition on the presiding deity of the temple where the concert was organised. tiruvETTIsvarar and shenbagAmbigai are the names of the god and the goddess at the temple. I think, the flowers that are called shenbaga flowers in tamil are called campaka flowers in sanskriti. The stala vruksham of the temple is a tree of campaka flowers.

I have been unable to find any information on Andavan Piccai's songs. The lyrics I have are from the rendition of artists like Sudha R.

This temple is located in the north-western side of Triplicane. Just off Triplicane High Road, near the Star theartre and Hotel Himalaya. You can also reach the temple from Ellis road which runs behind the temple. If you reach the area, anybody could guide you...
