Actually SSI/MSS and others rendered the Yamunakalyani version for many years which was later set to ahirbhairav by MBK.

This composition in Yamuna Kalyani was set to tune by SSI.. MS used to sing a Viruttam before singing "Pibare Ramarasam"

That is very true. The lyrics are very flexible. Here is my attempt

If it sounds like from a harikatha then it must be so, since that is my forte :)

I would appreciate if you can u/l the anandabhairavi/vasantha versions of your wife!

Dear Ramraj
It will be nice to hear the renderings in rajee's voice in case you have an audio! Most of SB were tuned by SSI superbly. However the ragas are not etched in stone and the mood created by the words will vary accordingly. When I used Atana I had the feeling of 'command' while the YK tuning by SSI conveys 'divinity' as sung by MS; and BMK's Ahir bhairavi gives the adhbuta rasa. I have the feel that anandabhairavi will give 'kuthoohala' rasa. I am sure BSaranga or madhyamavati will convey an overwhelming bhakti rasa and will make it a nice concluding piece for concerts!

here is an anecdote of comedy of errors and a good joke of 2007 . in an earlier post cm lover had sung pibare rama rasam in atanaa in a send space.com file .on the same day some of ajay chakrobarthy"s alaapsin raagas, sahana, chakravakam, ahir bhairav, kedar were posted inthe thread fusion music when i tuned for cm lover's atana, these songs by ACwere played. . thinking that these songs were by CM LOVER, I complimented him saying your voice is just like AC'S. your hm raagas are better rendered than carnatic raagas ..today CMLOVER has sent a mail to me that he does not know any hm raaga and he could not understand what I have written about .see the above post of mine dated29/11 ..unfortunately I have not been able to get his pibare raama rasam in atana gobilalitha

Great! Mystery resolved indeed! I am reminded of the famous story about Einstein's early days at Princeton when he was not too well known and was being invited to give lectures on the Theory of Relativity. Once his driver complimented him about the acclamations whence Einstein quipped that it was all quite simple and that the driver should deliver his next talk which was well prepared and he himself would assume the role of the driver. . While heavily protesting and being as musch interested in the fun of it the poor fellow agreed and mounting the dais with quivering legs delivered a brilliant speech. The audience were totally appreciative of the (pseudo) Einstein and one of them ventured to ask a question about a complex equation that was used in the paper. As the audience waited in hushed silence, without batting an eye the 'driver' responded that he question was so simple that even his driver should be able to answer it. And of course the "driver" mounted the podium and presented a brilliant explanation. That is what we would have said succinctly in Tamil kamban veeTTu kaitthaRiyum kavi pADum . So poor cmlover through the august association with kulkarni posting melodious AC in sendsapce is getting the credit is providence and not a 'comedy' :)

viva la sendspace :)

CML, quite an appropriate story.... Though this is popularly told about Einstein, the story is false, just one of these endearing fairly tales.

The story is indeed apocryphal... http://www.snopes.com/humor/jokes/einstein.asp

I know but I love it! Aren't we excited about the 'myths' regarding our Trinity though we know most of them are indeed myths :)
( I did ask his son about it who gave me a quizzical smile and said that if I wanted to believe it then by all means I can. He added that the said 'driver' must have had guts of steel to have taken a ride with his dad who though a great scientist was indeed the worst driver on the roads :)

Are there Gamaka and prayoga differences between Ahir Bhairav and Chakravakam? I ask since Pibare Ramarasam sounds rather different from other songs in Chakravakam such as "Maleya Marutha" from the Kannada movie Maleya Marutha or even the popular "Gananayutham".

According to B.Subba Rao (Raganidhi), there are two types of ahIrbhairav.
SRGMPNDPMPDS/SND..PM..PGMPGR..S or MRS
SRGMPGMDNS/SNDPMGRSNRS

I would like to know if Chakravakam and Vegavahini are one and the same i.e. Is Vegavahini the name of the raga in the Dikshitar school ?

I don't know if this is a reliable resource, but this webpage (http://www.geocities.com/vienna/strasse ... shitar.htm) says that Gajananayutham is in Vegavahini.

My understanding is that, under the asampoorna mela scheme that Dikshitar followed, Chakravakam is known as Vegavahini.
