Is there such a rAga, I think it must be kuntala-kusumavali, which has compositions by H.Yoganarasimham and tiruvottriur thyagayyar..

And the gaulanta ragas should include chAyagaula and pUrvagaula

Do the words gowla, varali and such words found in many raga names have meaning in any language?

It is possible to attribute a meaning to them in Sanskrit.. However, gauLa is believed to have a regional orinal from the gaudA-deSa.. varAti or varAtika/varADi is one of the pUrva-prasiddha meLas.. and there is no way to discern the meaning..

Here is some information on varali at the Carnatica web site.

And in an article on kedaragowla the author says that "gowla" means "white".

It can be construed to mean white.. There are rules in sanskrit grammar, which say r, L and D are interchangable on certain occasions..

Gaura definitely means white.. So gauLa can be treated as an equivalent..

Most of the old rAga names either indicated a region or had no traceable meaning..It is only the new kanti-s priya-s and angi-s that have some semblance of a meaning..

All of these names can't be ascribed a definite meaning - takka, paraj, HinDola, todi, kamAj, mukhAri etc..

Even I had that doubt! Is it nagasvarali or nagaswaravali?
