N Vijay Siva - Vocal
Charulatha Ramanujam - Violin
J Vaidhyanathan - Mrudangam

Bhava, Bhakthi, Clear Diction and Classicism are all Vijay Siva's forte. This concert that lasted for 2 hours was no exception and was pure delight. I have read somewhere in this forum that Vijay Siva's concerts are a statistician's nightmare - in that the law of averages never seem to catch up. Looking at it from another perspective - he makes the statistician's workload easier. The concert today featured compositions of Arunachala Kavi and Arunagirinathar. Following were rendered

1. Shlokam - Sadaa Baala Roopaapi
2. Apakara Nindhai - Chakravaham - Arunagirinathar - NS
3.Saranam Saranam Raghu Raama - Sourashtram - Arunachala Kavi - RN
4.Bhakthiyal Naan Unnai - Mohanam - Arunagirinathar
5.Marukulaviya - Purvikalyani - Arunagirinathar - RNS
6.Indha Vibheeshana - Kamas - Arunachala Kavi
7.Eppadi Manam Thunindhado - Huseni - Arunachala Kavi
8.Niramaya Puradhana - Dhanyasi - Arunagirinathar - S
9.Annai Janaki Vandhaale - Shankarabharanam - Arunachala Kavi - RST
10.Iruppavar Thiruppugazh - Suddha Dhanyasi - Arunagirinathar
11.Arivar Yaarunnai - Mukhari ?- Arunachala Kavi
12. Kandhar Anubhoothi - Ragamalika - Arunagirinathar. He rendered two more passages to the four that he normally does
13. Naadha Vindhu - Senchurutti - Arunagirinathar
14. Swasthi Prajafya Paripaalayanthaam

Vijay also explained the context in which the Rama Nataka Krithis were composed by Arunachala Kavi interspersing these explanations with some humour which sent the audience into raptures. J Vaidhyanathan performed a scintillating Thani Avarthanam. Charulatha Ramanujam was good.

Overall a great evening. The hall was more than 3/4ths full considering this was the inaugural edition of the vizha.

To put it plainly, my prof had a habit of talking about the law of averages....Vijay Siva is consistently above average and therefore likely to be a pet hate of my prof...hope it's clear now and sorry if the joke has been done to death...
