The concert started off on a sedate note with "Sankha Chakra ' Poornachandrika krithi of Dikshitar ( I presume he started with this piece as I entered a little late....) The next krithi was "Brochevare' Sriranjani krithi which was sung very well and a round of excellent swaras was also rendered. The next item was the Tirupaavai of the day "Pulin ... "Atana Ragam. The next was a rasping alapana of Varali followed by the Pancharatna krithi "Kanakana.." The next item was another enchanting alapana of Sri Ragam which was followed by the krithi "Karunajooda..." of Shyama Shastry... It is after a very long time that I heard an elaborate and excellent Sri ragam rendition and the krithi was the jewel in the crown. This was followed by the Dikshitar krithi "Abayama Bhaktim..." in the ragam Sahana, a soulful rendition....The next item was an elaborate Kalyani alapana which was sung with a lot of bhava and some soul stirring phrases.... The krithi to follow was 'Ethavunara..." This was rendered elaborately with nereval at the usual phrase and an excellent spell of swaras followed ..This was followed by a brilliant tani by Prasad and Amrit and the dessert of the fare was an excellent RTP in Saveri with an old Pallavi which was immortalised by Ariakudi, with RMS in Atana, Rithigowla, Behag Kunthalavarali, and Suruti. A brilliant summing up with an interlude of all ragas and Saveri on the ascent and descent. The concert was concluded with a Virutham and Surdas Bhajan in Ragesri ragam and another tukada in Panthuvarali.(I think so I may be corrected)...and Mangalam This was probably the Concert De Season ... The violin accompaniment was as to be expected from M.C.brilliant ,his raga alapanas and swaras was of the highest order and the mirdangam and kanjira accompaniment was of the highest order. A collective effort which produced some profound music which is still lingering...... Any mistake may be pardoned. This is a review by a laymen and it may be viewed accordingly... Bye Ragjay
