One of vasudevacharya's best pieces, this krti combines a fine tune with lovely poetry...
P: kalayE mama hrdayE tvAm kamalAlayE kali kaluSa vidUra vAsudEva jAyE
kalayE - I bear,I place
mama hrdayE - in my heart
kamalAlayE, tvAm - you, o lotus dwelling goddess
kali kaluSa vidUra - One who is far (removed) from the dross of the kali yuga
vAsudEva jAyE - O wife of viSNU (vAsudEva)
A: kalApa su-shObhita sundara kAyE krpAlayE - O repository of mercy! your form is decorated by strings of pearls.
kalAdhara bimba sannibha sukha pradacchAyE - the shelter/refuge of you(r feet) is as cool as the full moon.
kalyANa guNa nikAyE - You are the confluence of all virtue.
kaladhauta* khacita maNI valayE** - you are engirdled by a band of gold silver and gems
kala bhASaNa priyE - Fond of sweet speech.
C: vArijOdbhavAdi dhyEyE - adored bythe lotus-born (brahma) and others,
vAridhi tanayE - O daughter of the ocean!
vArijadaLa vishAla nEtra dvayE - Your eyes are like two broad lotus petals.
varENyE - O ultimate one!
vArita bhakta santApa nicayE - you dispel all the woes of your votaries
vishvapriyE - O darling of the whole world!
vArija- abhivyakta-mahOdayE - You apparently emerge from a lotus.
su-hrdayE - O good hearted one!
varamuni nAradAdi hrN-nilayE - you inhabit the hearts of sages like narada
vara varNini kumkumAdyarchana priyE - You delight when worshiped with vermilion and turmeric.
vara-mandahAsa-shObhitAsyE - Your face is illuminated by a gentle smile.
varuNAdyaSta digpAlakAbhivandyE - you are worshipped by VaruNa and the other lords of the quarters..
kaladhauta* - a mixture of gold and silver, or a streak of silver.. this alloy was called electyrum in greece and egypt, and was favoured for strengthenimg bowstrings..
valayE** - Valaya comers from a verb which translates to encircle, and can mean armlet/bracelet/bangle/girdle.. i have chosen the latter for no particular reason..

Rajani,
Vara-varNinI can mean a beautiful woman/noble woman.. but one of the meanings of the word is turmeric, and I thought it fitted the context better...
rshankar,
agree varunAdyashTa and svanama mudra.. will incorporate into the translation..
about chAyA meaning form, I am not too sure..
It is generally used in the sense of colour/hue/complexion or shade/shadow/reflection..
as an interesting aside, sUrya had a 'wife' called chAya - It is befitting that shadow is the sun's mate..

... just a sandhi rule of conjugating the vowel, I think.....isn't the word varuNAdyashTa?
varuNAdi + ashTa = varuNAdyashTa
Does anyone know the etymology of this word? There's also a variation of Saradhi (i.e. Saradhi bandhana for rAma) used.vAridhi

he was pointing at an error in the transliteration.. I had it as varuNAdyashtakmrasika wrote: ....isn't the word varuNAdyashTa?
the suffix 'dhi'denotes 'repository of' as in nidhi..I think it is a truncated form of nidhi.. this has led to a whole set of synonyms for ocean, using words for water followed by -dhi.kmrasika wrote:Does anyone know the etymology of this word? vAridhi, sharadhi, payOdhi, nIradhi, pAthodhi, ambudhi, ambhOdhi, udadhi are a few such synonyms..
