Hi all,

Yesterday I happened to attend Sriram parashuram and Anuradha Sriram jugalbandhi @ ISS.
The concert started at 7.00. In fact there was a concert of Raviksran(gotuvaadyam) before this. He was accompanied by Tanjore Sankaran. I could not attend this, as I made it late to the concert. Will curce myself for not being able to attend that concert. However, the the jugalbandhi was awesome and reduced my commotion to an extent.
They were accompanied by artists whom I do not know. My guess is Mrudangam was from Balaji and Tabla by Ravindra Yavagal.

The concert started off with todi varna Eranaapi.I had knew Sriram only as a Violinist( though have not heard him) but yesterday I saw the real proficient vocalist in him. He remembered me of TNS both by his voice and looks.

The next piece was Panthu Varaali/ Puria Dhanashree. This involved Sriram singing in Hindusthani style and Anuradha singing in carnatic style. I felt as if I am attending a lec dem session. The sancharaasa sung were like a mirror for both the schools of music. The composition was
"paayaliyaa jhanakaar mohe| Jhanak Jhanak baaje Jhanakaari". This was set to a taala similar to aadi. The swaraas put in different tempos were really good.

The shruthi @ which anuradha sang was high. However her control, even at that shruthi is appreciable.

Once they finished this, they sang "Idu bhagya Idu Bhagya" of Purandara daasar in Panthuvarali(set to Khandachapu).

The next one was a Rasia(as told by shri ram)--- jamunaa Kinaare.. in Mishra kaamod.

Then it was Sreeniwaasa tiruvenkatamudaya in Hamsaanandi. This was followed by a brisk Thani aavarthanam. Thani was not really elaborate but, had all the qualities of a standard thani aavarthanam.

Finally it was a Thappa in kafi (as told by shri ram)--Miya nazar nahi aanda. followed by a telugu jaavali jaanatanamu maatalu.. in kaapi.

I thoroughly enjoyed the concert and felt lucky to have attended it. I had a real sense of content after reaching home at 12.30 AM, drowning in the rain. It was worth it.

Hi,
How was the crowd. Last year I attended this concert at the same venue and the crowd was good including a VIP with lots of protocol followed.

Crowd was not much. Ppl were there at the beginning. At the end it was around 30-40...
Probably they intuitively felt the coming of rain (unlike me..;))

Tks for the Review Naada Priya. Violin was played by Shri.V.V.S.Murari and i couldnt really get the name of the harmonium player. As we had to wind up by around 9.15 i made the tani avartanam short and to the point giving more room for Sriram and Anu to sing a few more songs. As the crowd was dwindling away while the tani was nearing one tends to lose the enthusiasm to play an elaborate tani (this is also another reason). By the way Naada Priya were u sitting in the second row ?

I really feel sorry for that sir. Nevertheless the trishra nadai and the muktaaya was really good. BTY I was just sitting behind the cameraman....

MIshra Kamod is a raag, the prefix indicating that it contains some foreign notes and not that it was created by Mrs./Mr.Mishra! In Naada Priya's post, it shoud be Trichy Sankaran I guess...

Balaji sir, I can understand the disappointment when people leave during the tani...but those who stay back are doubly interested and in any case, these are the people who will really appreciate the tani...it must have been interestting to play with a tabla! How was the experience?

No Rajesh.Thats not correct.Try listening to the song Jao re Jogee from the Film Amrapali and you will get a feel for the raga.

Please do refer to Parrikkar's short takes on Shyam Kalyan and Kamod at sawf.
Karthik.
In My books , a poorly sung raga XXX gets classified as a Misra XXX.!!

Vijay,
Now we are even. Jonpuri for us and Patdeep for you. What else did he sing? Would like a song list, in a separate thread, of course.
