What could have been an enthralling concert, was completely marred by mike problems. Volume of the violin was uncomfortably loud throughout, and the tarasthayi portions were almost painful. But it was the mike of the veena that was really pathetic. It had a constant hum, and every pluck of the string emitted a harsh sound. For most of the concert, the instrument was more noise than melody.

All this did not to take anything away from the quality of the artists. The swaras for Hamsadhwani lasted more than 15 min, and were scintillating. HKV played a series of mesmerising, super speed phrases, demonstrating his control over the instrument. The kritis were all rendered well, with perfect synchronisation. The best part of the concert was the RTP. The mike of the veena had settled by now, and revealed the actual potential of the player. The pallavi was followed by a string of ragamalika swarams, which included the Ghana panchaka ragas. The two artists alternated in handling different ragas, and did a very good job.

Percussion support was excellent. Sudhindra and Udupa had a fabulous dialogue in the tani, which was full of energy and vigour.

Thanks Sowmya.. btw.. how many concerts do you attend in a day? ;)

I was surprised not to find Ravikiran performing in this concert. They ususally perform as a Venu-Veena-Violin trio (Ravikiran-Ashwin-Venkatram).
Wonder why he didnt perform in this concert...

Well, enough to make my mother want to drive me out of house to a concert hall permanently!! :D Ramanavami is music-time, and I try to keep myself free to take in as much as I can...

Yeah. Ravikiran was scheduled to perform. But they said he couldn't make it because of some unavoidable circumstance... The trio have other performances coming up during Ramanavami - in Sheshadripuram, and in Rajarajeshwarinagar... I hope he can make it to those concerts. They make a great tam!
