TVRP has a very heavy masculine voice and to a great extent that plus was somewhat neutralized where there is always a longing feeling in me that he can make his voice more pliable to demonstrate more ups and downs in gamakams.
Missed the first one just heard a last tinge of kAmbOdhi as I entered . The next krithi in supradeepam was sung quite well . The next rAga alApanai in vardhini was certainly difficult for me to identify, his rendition was quite good and he came up with a good round of swaras . THe sowrAshtram rendition was just average dipped the concert .
His madhyamAvathi alApanai though detailed certainly felt he was more in his comfort zone of his voice ,would have loved if his voice was more pliable . His rendition of krithi was very good ,though his neraval was just good .The swaras were very good , especially the last few minutes were excellent .
mukhAri was a definite low key rendition , certainly did not have the right dose of gamakams. The alApanai of shankarAbharanam was good , I assumed that he had a game plan for RTP , as usually an early RNS will lead to RTP . Possibly fairly heavy exodus in shankarAbharanam made him switch gears to endukku peddalA(always makes me wonder why shankarabharanam as a main immediately triggers more exodus), the neraval in vedha sAstra was just ok. The swaras were very measured certainly not very detailed .
Out of all the tukkadas , rasikApriya with a very emotive rAga alApanai of rasikapriya stood out . kApi certainly did not have the best of gamakAs , the last two was just ok to good. VL kumAr was just good , certainly missed out on proportion especially in the main where his play in shankArabharanam was as long as singer's alApanai.
The best performance from both the percussionists , nArayanan was brilliant in the first half usually he plays fast songs excellently, karthik gave an outstanding support through out .tani was very enjoyable. On a side note TVRP voice has a considerable overlap with nedunuri gAru atleast to me.

Rajesh,
My sentiments, exactly. He has a solid voice. Pliable, may be not. A very good singer, but I miss the emotive quality in his singing--at least for now. He is young. He might improve on it.
Was Nick alluding to him when it came to concert wear among CM artistes? He wears a dark colored 'pull on pants' type of silk vEshTi for his performances, does he not?

Tx sriram, making lot of mistakes nowadays.I did see you getting out during s'bharanam alApanai.

I was sitting in the last few seats did not spot the color , but last few occasions I have seen him wearing orange vEshti. I am not sure if that is a pull on pants type.
Mods
Please change vanimahal to skgs in the title.

I learnt Orupozhudum in Begada from Shri A. S. Raghavan of Delhi Thiruppugazh Anbargal. Was the Chakravaham version tuned by Alathur Brothers?

Vijay,
'Delightfully opinionated' says it all about our sometimes pouting Rajesh who always radiates friendliness and has such an incurable love for CM. One of a kind he surely is.
By the way, who said you have retired?
We are thankful for Bharath too and all the others who bring us reviews from Chennai, Bengaluru, Mumbai and Hyderabad.
sbala would care to occasionally join in too, I hope...
