a great concert indeed...in varali piece, just before neraval in the line vazha vulaginil - few good sangathis were sung. second kalam nevaral singing was awsome, and the swaras started directly in 2nd kalam. kArvai around tara styani shadjam was outstanding, and got him some applause from meager audience of less than 30. The concert was held in chokkanadhar temple in Domlur, a very old and ancient temple. I was seated in front row, good view of god and artists.

mukhari raga alapana was leisurely done, and the ashtapati was sung in vilamba kAla bringing out the raga bhava very well. The pronunciation and sahityam need special mention here. The raga alapana had all very well known sancharams, and just last week, i heard Ravikiran conducting colors of raga in Mukhari in worldspace. He was gracious enough to sing the song Vadasi yadi, a great hit in my family sung by MS amma. Today being my daughter's star birthday, my wife requested Ravikiran to sing this song, he readily accepted to sing, after asking us to check with organizers whether it is okay to sing ashtapati in temple (Not sure why it is not allowed to sing ashtapati in temple)

Lathangi keerthana was rendered in madhyamakalam.

Mohanam raga was very lesuirely pased, in vilamba kalam, and took more than 20 minutes. I really enjoyed hearing this raga, ravikiran brought out raga swarupa very well, used well known proyagas and also improvised very well. The sang full throated, this is a major plus point for him. No nasal or false voice what so ever. Janta swara prayogams were cleverly used in raga alapana in both kalams. The swara patterns were very cleverly rendered, some times ending with S R GG. During one of the avarthanams, he rendered the swaram ending in tara Sa, and singing mohana rama in thara sthyai, this was well appreciated by audience...

Thani was crisp and good. I left after thani and felicitation speech.

A picture is here... Since there wasn't enough lighting, and that this is a temple atmosphere... photo quality is rather poor... Taken from my mobile
