Concert by Vidhushi Bombay Jayashri (BJ) at Parampara, Palm Meadows, Whitefield, Bangalore

Mridangam: J Vaidyanathan

1) Karunanidhiye, Bauli, Papanasam Sivan (S)
2) Shankari Neeve, Begada, Subbaraya Sastry
3) Meru Samana, Mayamalavagaula, Thyagaraja(N,S)
4) Nee Padame Gathi, Nalinakanthi, GNB (A, S)
5) Yeppadi Manam, Useni, Arunachala Kavi (Sketch)
6) Thaamatham, Mohana Kalyani
7) Palinchu Kamakshi, Madhyamavathi (A, N, S)
8) Thani
9) Virutham, Murganin Marupeyar Azhagu, Behag, Guru Surajananda
10) Nathahare, Bhagyashri, Ashtapadi
11) Thillana – Lalgudi Jayaraman
12) Mangalam

Karunanidhiye in Bauli, provided an ‘apt’ opening for a ‘morning concert’, needless to say that the Kriti rendition in all its glory and peace, set the tone for the rest of the concert. Evocative swara-prasthara. Followed by Shankari Neeve, sung at a slightly quicker kalapramanam and was joyous to the ears. Meru Samana – sung at a glorious pace, followed by a great neraval and a wonderful swaraprasthara, brought out Mayamalavagaula in all its glory.
To say that the Nalinakanthi alapanai was brilliant would be a euphemism – all facets of the ragam was brought out and reminded one of the ‘pallavi’ that Bombay Jayashri had sung at the Music Academy in 2007. Followed by a ‘not-so-often-heard-these-days’, rendition – Nee Padame Gathi, composed by Shri GNB. Yeppadi Manam (Useni) – the ramanataka keerthanam was a true BJ rendition.
Following the mohana kalyani krithi, was the crowning glory of the concert – Madhyamavathi – alapani seeped in true tradition, coupled with some great, though different prayogams – it was what my seniors say was “soukhyamâ€

Braindrain,

Was this concert reported in advance in rasikas.org or your webpage? I dont think any of the newspapers carried any information about this. I think the last concert of BJ at Ramana Maharishi Institute for the Blind at JP Nagar a few months back , also took us by surprise. Thanks in advance for your reply.

Sappri,

In what raga was the Lalgudi Thillana? Thank you for your enthusiastic and good review :)

Missed the concert... BD's blog didn't mention this... I live close to this place, there was no mention of this concert anywhere!! So sad... May be a private affair?

Does anyone have contact of Parampara, the organizers? Do they arrange frequent cocnerts? I would like to gate crash to next concert even if there is no invite(;-

Nice choice of ragas and songs that she's sung very well in the past. Finally can imagine a concert she's sung well, with a review that corresponds to that too.

This is a private group for residents of Palm Meadows and this incidentally was a Chamber concert.

TNS usually sings the Ashtapadi Natha Hare in Sankarabharanam, if I remember right.
