Kum. Amritha murali presented an intense and involved afternoon concert at Narada Gana Sabha. Accompanying were Smt. Padma Shankar and Sri. Ganapathiraman.
Song list:
1. Vanajakshiro (varnam), Kalyani, Ata
2. Sankaram Abhirami, Kamala manohari
3. Begada, Tanavaridanamu
4. Brovavavamma, Manji
5. Sarasasamadana, Kapi narayani
6. Todi, Koluvamaregada
7. Pachaimamalai (Viruttam)
8. Manikam katti
Casual Observations:
1. The sound system was playing truant all through the 1st song and the soundman who insists on making superfluous appearances in a Nithyashree or Sudha concert was nowhere in sight.
2. Amritha has a great technique of controling the pace of the concert. The leisurely and soothing Brovavavamma made people sink in their seats and get ready for the todi main. I remember a previous concert where she presented Vazhi maraikkudhe to similar effect. Cannot recall any contemporary artiste doing this so effectively.
3. Both Todi and Begada were sung with a great deal of intensity and humility - more in the spirit of joint investigation of a raga with the accompanists and the audience, rather than "confidently" regurgitating something that has been well internalized.

Seems to have been a very nice concert. Thanks for your report, Suresh.
High praise indeed! I am really impressed with the current crop of intelligent and intellectual musicians who are taking CM to new heights. Kudos!sureshvv wrote:more in the spirit of joint investigation of a raga with the accompanists and the audience, rather than "confidently" regurgitating something that has been well internalized.
