4.shambhO mahAdEvA - PanthuvarAli - rupakam

6.nAgalinga bhajEham-shankarAbharanam-Adhi - (main)
7.mangalam

Dear friends please add if i had missed out anything in the song list.It was another vintage OST concert from start till the finish. The sree raga varnam was just the right piece for the wonderful evening and set the tempo for what was to follow. then kalyAni , atAna, and panthuvarali were all beautifully rendered without much alApanAs but with a few round of crisp swaras which reminded me of a typical opening part of an ariyakudi concert.

kIravAni was done a little bit elaborately and the song was rendered very well without kalpanaswArAs.Before shankarAbharanam there was a small krithi which i am unable to recollect. Then shankarAbharanam as usual was standard OST. The krithi was rendered very well and am hearing it for the first time though. Nagai muralidharan on the violin was excellent through out the concert though i felt at times he was a bit harsh on the bowing part.could also be due to the not so impressive sound arrangement which in my opinion was a bit too loud for comfort.

With due respect to the other artistes, hero of the evening was undoubtedly sankaran sir.the way he kept up the tempo right from the varnam till the mangalam was something unique. The thani even though was a standard affair with the classic thisram and a mindblowing misram, i would draw parallels between sankaran sir's vAsippu and kvn sir's kApi.Sri.KVN would sing the same kApi 100 times but when he sings for the 101st time you would still want to hear more.Thats how it was yesterday..All in all a wonderful evening

Too loud for comfort is an understatement. Even when the audio technician attempted to fiddle with the volume control to reduce the general noise level, the fiddler kept demanding increased volume. The fiddler won the day!

Could you actually tell the strokes apart? He is just another culprit along with Raja Rao and Bhakthavathsalam among mridangists who think they are the star of the show and the vocalist is there merely to provide a reference framework for their mridangam playing.

Hero? Zero is more like it!

To paraphrase Jack Nicholson: "Sell crazy someplace else, we're all stocked up here".

The last post on this thread before the ones today was on 14th dec of last year. Whats the big idea of digging up this thread after some 9 months? No value added. I can't figure out why or how someone would actually go looking for a specific thread that hasn't even been alive for so long.

For that matter, I don't understand why people dig up threads that are 1 or 2 years old, and start continuing with it when it has become defunct for all practical purposes !!!

Mahesh,
Until you pointed it out, I didn't see the year on the posts. True. What is the point of flogging a dead horse, especially when there is such rancor in one of the posts?
