Pardon my ignorance. Did the swarams sung before each stanza of Jagadanandakaraka & other songs come from Saint Thyagaraja himself or were they added later?

They were set by Tyagaraja.

Venkat, you may know this already but just in case not, the melody for each stanza is same as the swaras that come before it. It is like the swara sahitya of pada varnams. So, another way of asking your question is, is that how Thyagaraja intended to structure it or it was somehow adopted later on. Lakshman's answer says that the structure itself was set that way by Thyagaraja.

Dear All
It has been mentioned that the swaras have been given by Saint Tyagaraja. In such a case why different people sing in different ways. Some say it is Samadhi Paadam and others say it has been corrected by my guru. Why they have to correct or amend the swaras if it has been given by the saint himself. Kindly clarify.

Narasimhan, what is Samadhi Paadam?

I did not know there are different versions of the swaras. How different are they among the various versions?

In that case, I assume that the melody of the sahitya ( mettu ) that follows the swaras also reflect that changes in the swara section.

Whatever being sung during Aaradhana at Tiruvaiyaru is they call as 'Samadhi Paadam'. Famous singers have also given cds on pancharathnam. Booklets have been printed and circulated during Aaradhana. Generally Naatai and Sriragam all agree one style and there is no difference. We can see lot of small small changes in recitation regarding Aarabi, Gowlai and Varali.
