The s r m p n s ascent is reminiscent of Hamsanadam. However, the Kalyan ang is pronounced in the descent - the m p g m r s phrase is revealing! I suppose it would be classified as a janya if the 65th mela of CM.

Rag 'Shyam Kalyan ' is not exactly an equivalent raga to either Saranga or Hamsanadam. This Hindusthani rag belonging to the Kalyan That does not have any equivalent raga in Carnatic Music.
The aroh and Avaroh. notes of this raga are:-

'N3 S R2 M2 P N3 S'
S' N3 D2 M2 P M2 R2 G3 M1 R2 G3 'N3 S

Both Madhyama swaras are used in the raga. This is said to be an
' evening raga '. In the arohana sanchara , the notes appear are all most the same to that of the rag Hamsanadam(CM). This may be the reason for its similarity also.

It is believed that, listening to this raga, at its specified time, will have effect/ capability to subside the anger as well as diseases caused due to the 3 doshas (kapham-vaadam-pittam), hence played during music Therapy. The therapeutic value of this raga-listening is its curative power, emanates from the resonance of this raga, have its direct effect on hormonal and glandular functions which produce secretions that keep the body balanced and infection free. The tamil film song " Nee Oru Kadhal Sangeedham " of the film

Sri. OS Arun had sung a beautiful Swati Tirunal's bhajan ' Aaju Aao Shyam mohana ' in this rag in one of his Bhajan albums.

The Music Album " Salokyam " by Bombay Jayashri contains the
Meera bhajan ' Gopala Govinda " sung in Rag. Shyam Kalyan. It is worth listening. Listen to this song on the link below:
