swarna rethas@sivakAMi petAchi on Feb 08th,2009
-----------------------------------------------
Accompanied by padmanAbhA - violin , arjun ganesh - mridangam

As part of the 12 hour dikshitar akandham , wanted to hear swarna rethas as I have not heard him before. My calculation was right as around 1 noon when I entered, I was just before the beginning of swarna rethas concert start ,very lucky , but with every luck there is also the other side of unluck , just landed at kalyANi.Just kidding there, he sang quite well there with a round of swaras.

The next gowlai was something I am more acclimitized to hear in a little faster speed (blame it on semmmangudi mamA), he sang it in a vilambakala mode nevertheless well rendered . The next tough one shree dakshinamurthe was a very good rendition.

The most elaborate treatment was in bhairavi , cannot call it as a main though. I have only heard one rendition in the last 4 years where one vidwan completed this mammoth uphill trekking shrI kamalAmbikAyA with enough lung space throughout . Unfortunately despite swarna rethas starting it beautifully, he lost lot of breadth towards the end .

The last was a rare rAgamAliga , he could have sung with little slower, it was a tad too fast. Both the accompanist gave good support , liked arjun ganesh senitive play without robbing swarna rethas rendition was one notch higher

Swarna rethas sang with quite a lot of azhuttam and energy, was overall a good to very good concert. Perhaps sbharanam and bhairavi succession interlaced with a fast no would have added lot of plus to the concert.

1. gaNapathE mahAmathe(S)- kalyAni
2. thyagarAja pAlayamAm - gowlai
3. shree dakshiNamUrthE - shankarAbharanam

4. shrI kamalAmbikAyAH(R) - bhairavi
5. siMhasanasthite - rAgamAligA -saurAshtram + vasantA?? + shuruTTi+ madhyamAvati
