devakinandana nandakumAra vR^indAvanAJNchana gokulachandra
O' Krishna! You brought joy to Devaki by releasing her from prison and by bringing back her dead sons. You grew up in the house of Nanda and thus became popular as the son of Nanda. You sported in the holy Vrindavana, belonging to a women called Vrinda, the beautiful land on the banks of Yamuna, intimately connected to your pastimes. Like the enchanting moon, you brought joy to the entire Gokula. I bow to you with devotion.

Agraja - I thought sundarI nAtha refered to krishNa as the husband of lakshmI - is it also appropriate to extrapolate it to the gOpIs (in plural)?Agraja wrote:indrasutAvaka nandakahasta chandanacharchita sundarinAtha

Would it not be more appropriate to translate nandakahasta as "one who holds (the sword) Nandaka and mandaradhArin as the one who holds/supports/carries mount mandhara?

Ravi, yes, sundarI nAtha can be used in context of the Gopis too. sundarI means the beautiful one, and nAtha means the lord of. So in essence, sundarI nAtha means the lord of the beautiful one. Now depending on one's personal understanding, you can associate the word in context of the Gopis. But that's just my point of view. The beauty of such kirtis lies in the fact that the same words can denote a thousand meanings, at times, drastically varied. About, indrasutA, I agree, Arjuna is the son of Indra, and an incarnation of Nara, not Indra. An error on my part.
Amateur, well the direct translation would be "the hand that holds the nandaka". The meaning I gave is altered slightly from it's original to maintain the flow of the translated sentence. The essence of the word remains the same. Again, as I said earlier, it just depends on how you wish to see it as.
