Ranjani Hebbar Guruprasad

Post by rajeshnat »

WE lost last year a remarkable vidushi , young , musically very expressive . I liked her music so much. One can say she is like NC Vasanthakokilam of 1950's , she just came and left .Hoping to read the commemorative volume as mentioned below

About 4 years back she had a nice website , one thing that struck me was her address where it said Luz church Road and I thought that was a brilliant move. I was not aware of her ailment and I was assuming for many years her extraordinary music is creating scarcity of performing opportunity possibly because of politicking , till this post came

Mods,
Can u lock the above obituary post and move it to topic http://www.rasikas.org/forums/viewforum.php?f=4. Also rename that topic Music & Musicians of the past as Obituaries Please , after all every one of us will be one day past.

Ranjani's illness prevented her from performing only from Oct 2012 (when it was discovered) till her demise in June 2013.

I would say that she was not skilled in the art of self-promotion which seems to be the way to get concert slots in Chennai. Quiet and unassuming, she thought Chennai sabhas would recognize and reward talent. Though she did get the Kalki Award and concert slots during the Season at the Music Academy, it was primarily the alternative sabhas such as Nadopasana, Naada Inbam, SAFE, etc., who featured her.

I have read the commemorative volume that the article in The Hindu refers to. It details the story of an extraordinary musician whose life was so tragically cut short.
