Svanubhava event at Chennai on Nov 14 - Padams & Javalis

Post by Anusha »

Date: Nov 14, 2017
Venue: Amethyst, Chennai

I had the privilege of attending the Svanubhava event 'Padams& Javalis' -

Bharatnatyam by Smt. Priyadarshini Govind with
Shri Tiruvarur Girish (vocal),
Dr. R. Hemalatha (violin),
Shri J. B. Sruthi Sagar (flute)
Shri Vijayaraghavan (mridangam)

The below items were presented:

Yaar poyi solluvar - Thodi
Yarukkagilum bhayama - Begada
Smara sundaranguni - Paras
Payyada - Nadanamakriya
Indendu Vacchitivira - Suratti
Adarkkulle yen inda padattam - Pantuvarali
Mosajesene - Sindhu Bhairavi
Krishna nee Begane - Yamuna Kalyani

I thought of sharing my experience here. (I have a limited exposure to dance recitals. And in the dance performances that I attend, I often
tend to be engrossed in the music.) It was wonderful to see this team of such great artistes, supporting each other so well.
Priyadarshini Govind introduced and explained the theme for each piece, before doing the abhinaya. She carried herself in a very simple,
humble manner all through. Girish was totally at ease, happily presenting his precious legacy with pride and confidence. The violin accompaniment was very apt, and enjoyable. Sruthi sagar supported well on the flute. He was very attentive, and played with restraint.
It was a very graceful team performance.

Borrowing from Wordsworth - A rasika could not but be gay, in such a jocund company!
