MLV's disciples include A. Kanyakumari, Trichur Ramachandran, Vanaja Narayanan, T.M Prabhavathi, Meena Subramaniam, Jayanthi Sridharan, Jayanthi Mohan, Rose Muralikrishnan, Yogam Santhanam and Bama Visveswaran. She also taught music to children at the Rishi Valley School.

You must be referring to TM prabhAvati, a senior Shishya of MLV. A very respected teacher, she was even invited to judge a music talent show recently. Shubha gaNEShan joined MLV much later. They're some renditions of hers on Sangeethapriya.
I think you are trying to refer to prabhAvati gaNEShan, a vidUshi.
Smt. Shuba Ganesan only learned from MLV for a brief period right? What about Smt. Saraswathi Sreenivasan? I heard that she is MLV's first disciple. Does she take classes in Chennai?

Yes yes yes. She is the one. I have heard her sing on DD (there was a harikAmbhoji, main piece SambhO mahAdEva in kAmavardhini and tukkudas) and on AIR (some kalyaNi kriti of tyAgarAjasvAmi). Good singer too.
Is there any way I can hear Smt. TM Prabhavathi's music? Has she come out with any recordings in the market?...If so, will all the Chennai music shops have them?
It seems pertinent that Mannargudi Easwaran was billed next to MLV (see the the red arrow!). After all, Kanyakumari was MLV's disciple and just a budding violinist.
Interesting. CM in the US too is getting to be vintage, and along with it, a few of us...
Request any one to upload an article on MLV in The Hindu last friday, conferring her some award.. and the presence of Senior vidwans like Sri.Rajarathnam pillai etc.,

A Rare photo of Dr MLV amma at Ghatam Vaithyanatha Iyers marriage concert accompanied by vidwan kovai dakshinamurthy- violin , Vidwan Karaikudi Muthu Iyer- Mrithangam (My grand father) and Vidwan vilvadhri Iyer Ghatam.
warm welcome subhagaNesan , what a stage presence MLV ammA , what a staminA she had got (infact MLV ammA's staminA is as much as the best of male artist),I used to crave to listen to one of her numbers parkAdal alaimelE ,how fast and energising that number was that demonstrates her staminA.
Is that you Mrs.Shubha ? playing tambura behind the great legend. Excellent, must be quite few years ago i guess, I have attended your concerts but you look very much different now. Any way thank you very much for all the three photos.
wow! really wonderful , the legend MLV herself is very young in the last photo. Which year it was taken? Shubha, THank you so much for uplaoding such rare photos
Jokes apart ! Smt.Subha Ganesan has uploaded 3 photos, in the color photo subha is playing tambura for her guru (see the colour photo in Page 3 of this thread) . Kindly read the posting properly before giving inappropriate replies.
The assumption was that question was with reference to the photo just a few posts above it (all these posts were referring to this photo only) Considering the context and after "properly" reading the posting, I believe the joke is 'pardonable'... Sorry anyway...
Shubha Ganesan,
Thank you so much for bringing back memories of that very special lady (she truly was one) with such lovely pictures of her. Great to see old timers like Vilvadri Iyer and your grandfather.
Waiting for(c)ML(o)V(er) to come and see these...

Thanks for the wonderful Bhairavi. From morning I have been listening to MLV non-stop. God bless her soul or the body that housed the soul or that particular body/soul combination or whatever that made such wonderful music!
