Sowmya at Music Academy

Sowmya is one such artist who enjoys exploring rare ragas. Today she chose Manirangu for RTP. Her rendition of ragam was classy. But she excelled more in thanam. It reminded me of her Guru Dr. Ramanathan. This was followed by a crisp pallavi. Well done

I wasn't very happy with the sound system for the concert.. the bass was too high. Usually the academy sound system is pretty good, but this time for some reason it was not up to the mark.

Sowmya yesterday displayed her grip over her musical capabilities very well.Though she had a slight problem with her throat and a stuffed nose, she won over all that and kept the tempo going.

What however was lacking was,a sense of melody, peace and sowkhyam in the whole of the concert. She came across with a lot of aggression dominating her singing personality. Also too much use of "thathakaaram" instead of "akaram" while singing ragam and use of "agaganomtha thomnom" syllables in tanam were jarring and marring the musical effect.
