Manodharmam at its best. Sings with a great involvement and feeling.
A superb RTP in revathi, Ika Nannu (Sahana - Patnam) and Chakkani Raja (Karaharapriya)
Other kritis rendered - first song virutam in bahudari followed by sadananda thandavan, visalakshim (panthuvarali), varanarada (vijayashri). Concert concluded with a tamil kriti (new)
A great team effort and contribution by the violinist, mritangist and ghatam artist)/ Not familiar with the names.

pallavi in mAmava sadA jaNani maNini shree mAthangi
Raga alApanai for 8 mins , violin return for 4 minutes , tAnam for 8 minutes , pallavi and swaras - 15 minutes
rAgamAliga swaras in behAg + varamu?? + hamsAnandi and revati
7A.viruththam pazhani velavane - kedAragowlai + + hameerkalyAni + mOhanam + sindhubhairavi
7B. nAlai enDru Oru NAl varumA - sindhubhairavi - madurai somu
A voice that reaches easily all octaves with copious maNodharmam alone does not suffice to produce a memorable concert . The accompanist have to also perform atleast good. SuryaprakAsh concert was bordering on being good to very good overall .The start was outstanding in emotive tiruvarutpA in bahudAri crusing beautifully with tANdavam Adum maNodharmam . The swaras were another new manOdharma patern .
The finish in RTP with a beautiful2 round of tANams and swararAgamALiga with hamsAnandi stood out. His viruththam in all 4 rAgas was uniformly excellent with little alankArams in the lines KaNDar aNuboothi paDippeN?? and then wrapping in the deceptively easy madurai somu filler was brilliant.
But the submain to main was a trough . Taking pantuvarAli without an alAp was only done to save time which is understable . A very excellent neraval followed with a round of small kanakku swarams was very good. THe percussionist just did not take off there , suryaprakAsh wrapped quickly (a nice move) to end up.
The alApana of sahAnA was just good, the violinist could have played much better the return . Any percussionist will struggle for this pre main fast swara bouncer of suryaprakAsh . In my opinion I have heard musicians singing vijayashree as only a krithi , not heard this fast swaras ever from any musician (even I have few recordings of pitamaha semmangudi not singing fast swaras in vijayashree), his rendition was stunning but the percussionist just could not cope up there ,in my opinion the singer should have not sung this fast vijayashree.
The main was just good , the percussionist got much better there , a kharaharapriya cakkani main without neraval is a strict no no to me, but he had time constraint.
Overall looking forward to hear his dec 27 academy afternoon RTP in shanmughapriyA, preferably forget this one =| . The team did not click.
