Sure I arttended. I did not post review here because it cannot be stomached by some. The concert was wonderful Well you asked for it and here is the review nay the writeup of the conceert.
Concert of TNS at The Music Academy on 25-12-2008
The second standing ovation of the season
TNS was accompanied by MChandrasekharan on the violin, Guruvayur Dorai on mrdhangam and Udipi S. Sreedhar on ghatam.
The concert started a little later than the scheduled time of 7pm because The previous concert ended a little late at 7pm with TNS cooling his heels in the wings for more than half an hour. TNS began with the sreeraga varnam followed by Sreeganapathini in sourashtram. Then TNS sang Panthuvarali and the krthi was ‘apparamabhakthi,’ of Thyagaraja and the neraval svaram was at ‘krpatalanu.’
What came next was ‘anandanatanaprakasam,’ of Dikshithar in kedaram. The lilting metre of the song was rendered beautifully by TNS who made it into a lasya thandava. The percussion accompaniment was superb. The next was the serene melodious nayaki krthi, paalayan maam sree pankajanabha of swatitirunal. The nayaki was curvaceous and graceful. The playing by MC of the raga was supplementary to that of TNS
After a brief ‘nenarunchinanu,’ which is always a delightful treat of various nadais in the chittasvaram, TNS started thodi, which elicited the comment of AKCNatarajan later, that it was long since he heard a good thodi. To say that TNS sang thodi wonderfully is like saying that the sun shines brightly, because if at all the sun shines he will only shine brightly. Similalry if TNS sings thodi he will sing it only in a wonderful manner. The krthi was ‘ninne namminaanu,’ of Shayamasasthri. The neraval svara at ‘kanchadhalayathaakshi.’
After he thani which was full of exoertise by Srimushnam Rajarao and TVVasan, TNS sang RTP in kalyani.. The raga was less elaborate due to the paucity of time but TNS presented a full version of the raga in a kalaidoscopical fashion in short duration,. The pallavi was ‘unadhu dharisanam kidaikkumo mnataraj dhayanidhe,’ which, though was a traditional one brought smiles considering the presence of this year’s sangithakalanidhi AKCNatarajan, which turned into laughter when TNS continued the line as "sangithakalannidhe.’ The thanam and svara in ragamalika were fantastic and were applauded well by the rasikas.
Last but not least TNS sang the viruttham ‘chediyaaya valvinaigal,’ in ragamalika consisting of Shanmukha priya, kedaragoula, aahiri, dhesh , sindhubhairavi and hamsanandi which was followed by a fast but beautiful ‘thirupathi venkatyaramana’ of Purandaradasa in hamsanandi . When TNS sang each raga it kept the audience spell bound with the richness and depth depicted in delineation of every raga and when he sang nin koyil vassal in desh we could seethe temple door opening. The best was sindhubhairavi of the line adiyaarum vaanavarum arambaiyarum kidandhu ilangum, one could visualize the devotees walking up the seven hills and have the darsan of the Lord, the dance of the celestial nymphs and the last line ‘padiyaay ninru un pavazavaai kaaNbene, created horripilation, as though the Lord Venkatesvara is actually in front which brought the joyful ‘Thirupathi venkataramana,’ from Purandhara dasa. No wonder when TNS ended the concert with this the audience gave him a standing ovation.

Thanks Saroja madam! BTW what is with TNS and Thodi and the Academy - I think 7 out of his 8 concerts at the Academy have included Thodi - last year IIRC he sand Kharaharapriya! Must have a special sentiment for singing that raga in the Academy.
Anyway everytime TNS sings Thodi, it is different so I am not complaining

His voice was not that much clear that day. The way he rendered chittaiswaram for Nenarunchi nanu was not so appealing, over speed and his rendition of 2nd kaalam tisram might be intelligent but spoiled the prestine beauty and asthetics of the ragam Malavi, Iam a great fan of TNS , Now a days he is not giving importance to aesthetics

Again, a question of taste, gopubabu. I never felt that the pristine beauty of the raga was spoilt. Infact, the sucess of TNS style is his way of doing laya vishayams with complete raga bhava. This makes the whole exercises very very attractive even for lay listeners. You should have listened to the Nungambakkam Cultural Academy Concert and the KGS concert this season, before commenting on his aesthetics. What a brilliant concert it was! From beginning till end it was soaked with aesthetics. Try to see if you can get it in the net.

The pallavi line was the traditional kalyani verse, "un darisanam kidaikkumo Nataraja, Dayanidhe", which TNS aptly changed after singing the original line , to 'un darisanam kidaikkumo Nataraja, Sangita Kalanidhe", in honour of Sri>AKC Natarajan, Kalanadhi designate, who was present in the audience.
This has been done by him in the past years too for some of the Kalanidhis, and During the year he received the Kalanidhi, N.Ravikiran, composed a pallavi , which had the words "Vi Sesha Gopala".
Once R.Vedavalli, sang this "un darisanam kidaikkumo ", at the Nungambakkam Cultural Academy, to announce the exit or absence of Sri Natarajan, the President / Secretary of that Sabha, during the concert series. !!!!

Success of TNS style is his way of doing laya vishayams with complete raga bhava" , of course true. I attended his kgs concert i accept it was full of asthetics, what i meant was the way he rendered chitaiswaram of malavi was not appealing since over speed dominated and spoiled the swaroopam of the raga and the placement of swaras are not in its place and it sounded as if he recited the swara passages instead of singing.

I fully agree with Amrthavarshini that the svaras of TNS are resplendent with ragabhava and his music appeals even to the layman. Today there is a review in the Hindu about the concert which please read. The critic has praised the chiitasvara of nenarunchinananu, " the chittasvaram was made into a medley by introducing different speeds of each strand with quick changeover from one another." He has mentioned, may be rightly ,that the concert which TNS has presented at the Academy was full of nuances and intricacies for the musicians and not for the common man. But it is also true that the music of TNS is appreciated even by a layman, as Amrthavarshini has said. It is 'abrhamasthambaparyanatham,' appeals to all . Abaalagopavidhitham is his vidvat. Those who understand the intricacies of his music appreciate as one vidvan to another because 'vidvaan eva vijanaathi vidvajjanapariSramam,' as the saying goes. But to a layman the music appeals to his soul direct even without any knowledge of music as the only qualification to appreciate good music is to have an open heart and the absence of any preconceived notions. I can quote examples of people who do not know even to differentiate one raga from another who have become his ardent fans. They do not understand but are awestruck by the standard of the music. When the veda and the other scriptural texts are chanted those who know the meaning may enjoy it well no doubt but even for people like us it creates a feeling of ecstasy just by hearing it. Such is the quality of music of TNS.When he sings svaras, it is not like typewriting but he lets them out with featherly touch yet forceful which makes them sound pleasing but awesome by the display of expertise .

I only replied to the following comment by you
Ionly replied to your comment,
"what i meant was the way he rendered chitaiswaram of malavi was not appealing since over speed dominated and spoiled the swaroopam of the raga and the placement of swaras are not in its place and it sounded as if he recited the swara passages instead of singing"
which is an individual opinion and not a general statement. Hence I was bound to tell the general opinion it created, by quoting the review that is all.
