The Music Academy couldn't find a nicer looking centre table?

This could be an antique piece. Look at it closely. Perhaps we cannot understand its worth:)

I hope this isn't an antique- then the identical table my grandparents had for decades shouldn't just have been given away!

A white table cloth and a garland of Jasmine across the table would have been a good idea.

Unfortunately this got sandwiched between 2 lec dems but I heard Ninnuvina Gamari from the canteen and was completely enthralled...I am so happy to note that Vidushi has been brought to the attention of Chennai rasikas and is finally getting her due. Kudos to Carnatica and Sri Rama Varma

Apart from center table, the concert also went beyond scheduled end time, may be by good 5 minutes!

I saw quite a few artists in front row - GJR Krishnan, N.Ravikiran, T.K.Govinda Rao, TNS, Jayalakshmi Santhanam, M.Chandrasekharan etc. Also, after concert, near stage entrance i saw number of artists - like Prince Rama varma, Amruta Murali, RKSriram kumar, Amrita murali, malladi brothers, etc

At her age, what majesty she brings to her singing. Vengala kural , ganeernu irukku. This is what many elders say for a full throated voice. and this is what we heard yesterday.

But this does not mean that voice is loud . So much modulation, nuances expressed in a well defined manner, compact rendition,.... the list goes on.

The chittaswara of Gajavadana , takes the cake. How much she should have internalised to produce the right effect. Her Neelambari piece and the tillana were so melodious and had the right fervour.

Tillana - I think its the Prince's composition? Saw him , but could not talk to him. Words had padmanabhadasa, Rama Verma.

Yes. Thanks to Carnatica and Prince Rama Verma for unearthing this Platinum jewellery.

s_HARI, You are very lucky, apart from hearing a brilliant classical performance by the venerable grandma, you had the opportunity to meetSENIOR vidwans,TKJ,TNS, MALLADI BROS,RAVIKIRAN, GJR,RKSRIRAMKUMAR AND budding artist Amrita murali and Prince Ramavarma together. WHAT A GREAT GROUP!!! Gobilalitha

I was also at this concert and it was grand from start to finish. The ease of flow and expression are unbelievable. Nothing overdone, everything in right measure.

I too couldn't help notice the ugly table and its incongruity in the midst of a stage that must have cost tens of thousands. As someone pointed out a simple white sheet would have done the trick. While they're at it the main stage-riser could sport a less tacky jamakkAlam too :-)

Some more thoughts rekindled after reading this article by Sri Samanth Subramanian.

Samanth's writing touched me because what he says are exactly my impressions of that golden girl (pon peN, not Amma).
Ravi, you have to see her and hear her and then you will echo my feelings and Samanth's and those of many others. Her person and her music are something to be experienced. She glows (Ponnamma again). Serenity surrounds her and her music fills your heart. It is almost as if you are part of her experience too, with that yogic presence of hers which feeds you with nourishing music.I had seen her ages ago too (I was a girl then and she was a young woman) in Trivandrum at my uncle and aunt's house. The way she has matured is something wonderful to behold. Her music is--oh, so soothing.
And, she IS ageless, that girl...

Wow! Arasi you are indeed lucky to have heard her so many years back! BTW, Samanth, who is also a forum member, writes a fortnightly column on CM for the Mint's Saturday supplement, the Lounge.
