recently in a music sabha at tambaram, the organiser was found talking and chatting away happily, while young girls and boys were
singing with bhakti. the organiser was also found rushing the youngsters asking them to sing fast and sing the sangathis only once
for want of time. some of the sensitive children who wold have obviously taken to music seriously and would have come after good
practice would have found it shocking and insensitive. bad respect to junior artistes and bad respect to carnatic music.

Very bad.
But while organisers and sundry "VIP"s will stand in front of the stage and chat while not-so-junior artists are singing, how can they be expected to treat children with respect?
Of course it is not everybody. That is the trouble with a complaint like this; the extrapolation of one person, one event, to the "treatment of junior artists".
An ex-boss of mine used to say, "I'm not guilty of discrimination; I'm equally offensive to everyone" (we were supposed to laugh, but it was truer than he though
) --- perhaps your man behaves like this whoever is on the stage!

Nick makes a good point. Though for a younger artiste, such behaviour may be especially hurtful. I also hate it when big vidwans saunter into the front row in the middle of a concert and then just get up and walk away in the middle as well (after staying just half an hour or one hour; and let's not kid ourselves and pretend they're "too busy" to come for the whole thing- they're just "high and mighty").
