madhyamAvati short sketch

It was a very good concert. Smt. Sudharani was her usual creative self. Beginning with the varNam in 4 kAlams, with each phrase and each song she was getting more and more creative and yet well within the rAga bhAvam. Her kriti renditions were very good. The AlApanai, neraval and svarams were all very nice. Her mel kAla svarams and svarams in multi naDai were all very good. The korappu svarams in nirOshTA were very interesting. (she mentioned the rAgam is also called putrikA) The AlApanai in kharaharapriyA was very elabortate and had some graha bedam also. The AlApanai of pUrvikalyANi was short and sweet, while the tAnam was exceptionally outstanding. The accompanists did a great job in perfectly blending with the main artist. Kum. Sruthiravali, daughter of Smt. Sudharani lended vocal support and sang parts of chArukEsi AlApanai and svarams in nirOshTA.

Coolji
Is this the only artist. Pantula Rama and yet more. I attended a fabulous concert on the 29th dec at Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan and the total audience was hardly 50. Many such artists who hail from the nearby states of TN. Sad state of affairs.

The violinist showed clear shades of Lalgudi bani. Does anyone know who his guru is?

The nirOShTha AlApanai was impressive. I felt the cArukesi showed traces of SankarAbharaNam in the initial parts.

The purvi kalyANI tAnam was very elaborate (even more than the AlApanai) and sung very nicely.

The violinist gave good replies. His kharaharapriya AlApanai was good, and also had a graha bhedam itself.

Her daughter gave very able support, and her svarams were very interesting as well.

yes.. the pasupathi priyA piece is a composition of Muthaiah Bhagavathar. I had made a typo i my post. apologies.

music fan, Smt Pantula Rama gets many more concerts during the season these days. She even sings in the evening slot at the Academy.

Smt. Sudharani is invited by just 2 or 3 organisations in the city and thats not regular either. She deserves much more visibility and prominence in the music field than most of the popular artists today!

Dear Madhavgaru,

Welcome. Isn't Sri NChK-garu also the guru for Sri TKV Ramanujacharulu and Sri MSN Murthy (Vizag?). Could you tell us a bit more about your guru? For instance his gurus, his compositions. We know he won the composer award from the Academy

On another note, I have heard Lalgudi sir render an NChK - Marajanani in Natakapriya. Would you happen to have a vocal version that you could upload? Or at least the notation? Do you also have any violin recordings of his that can be uploaded?

I find it amazing that LGJ sir found and played this composition back in the 70s. Says volumes about the composition. It is in a concert released by Charsur. It is a very catchy piece.

Thanks!
R
