Shri TM Krishna - Vocal
Shri TKV Ramanujacharyulu - Violin
Shri Karaikkudi Mani - Mrudangam
Shri BS Purushotham - Kanjira
Date : December 2, 2008
Time : 4:30 PM - 6:30 PM
Venue : Narada Gana Sabha Main Hall
1) Enduku Nirdaya - Harikambhoji - NS
2) Vinata Suta - Jayanthasena - S
3) Pari Purna - Purvikalyani - AS
4) Velaiyya Dayavillaiya - Saveri
5) Nadachi Nadachi - Kharaharapriya - ANST
6) Idu dhano - Behag
7) Khamas Thillana
The concert began well with the Harikambhoji Krithi. The Jayanthasena was sung ok. The concert overall, to me, was on the slower side. The Purvikalyani Alapanai was again ok. The Saveri filler - the Koteeswara Iyer Krithi - he sang the same one at the same venue last year (for the same Sabha if I remember right) was quite good. The Kharaharapriya Neraval was the one thing that I liked about the concert. The Swarams had a liberal usage of Dhattu Prayogams. The violinist played in line with the vocalist's ideas. The Tani led by the veteran Shri Karaikkudi Mani was really good. Post main, the Thillana provided a brisk finish to an otherwise slow concert. The duration of the concert too was rather short - a 2 hour duration for a prime slot concert, to me, leaves much to be desired.

I completely agree... I had no idea it was a 2 hour concert... There was hardly any variety in terms of composers. This is the second time I'm attending Sri T.M.Krishna's concert and just like the earlier one, there were just TOO many occasions when the lyrics were practically indecipherable, sacrificed on the altar of what appears to be an overdose of "expressiveness". A couple of times during the neraval at the fast speed, I was tempted to think it was just random humming fit into the beat... A flamboyant display though. And as pointed out, there was very little variation in tempo in the "slow" concert...Sathej wrote:The duration of the concert too was rather short - a 2 hour duration for a prime slot concert, to me, leaves much to be desired.

Two hour concerts, while they can convey a lot, can 'seem' to lack substance because there is no time for RTP. I am assuming most of us expect to hear one in a concert. That is why I feel cheated when someone like Suryaprakash who gets lodged in a two hour slot gets shortchanged. Even if he sings a pallavi, it is brief and the short time does not allow for adding weight to it...

"Jangiripuzhinjufying" - Quite a delectable, terminology to verbalise his "mudras" on stage.
I have always been thinking in the region of "clawing", "pawing", "waiting to strangle", "wrestling" kind of terminologies, everytime I wanted to verbalise those actions !! The delectable is deliciously mentionable !!

arasi, we refer to such RTPs of very short durations as 'Rag,Tan, Pal's.arasi wrote:Two hour concerts, while they can convey a lot, can 'seem' to lack substance because there is no time for RTP. Jangri : The movie Marghazi Ragam has lots of it. I found at times he is planting the (paddy) natru or plucking flowers fromsaravanan wrote:A disappointing concert for me after reading all the hype about him in various Rasikas reviews.
But I loved his Jangri puzhinjufying mudras.I found it enjoyable :p
plants while doing thanam. It is very lively if you like it. It is very visible in the movie, especially his long hand movements.
