Sri Umayalpuram K Sivaraman - Mridangam
Sri B.C. Shreesundarkumar - Kanjira
The concert was arranged by Veena Vidwan S. Balachander Trust as a homage on his 82nd birth anniversary.
It was a rare privilege to see 3 generations of the same family perform on stage. ( The violinist is the grandson of Sri RKS' brother). The mutual admiration shared by the two Sangita Kalanidhis was evident. Sri UKS spoke impromptu at the end, that after Semmangudi Mama, Sri RKS is the Sangita Pitamaha.
The songlist :
1. Chalamela(varnam) - Darbar (R)
2. Sri Mahaganapati - Gaula (S)
3. Sri Raghukula - Hamsadhavni ( R, S)
4. Enda Muddo - Bindumalini
5. Matangi Sri Rajarajeswari - Ramamanohari ( R, N, S)
6. Aparaadhamulanorva - Rasali ( Tani)
7. Kamalanayana Vasudeva - Senchurutti
8. Mangalam Kosalendraya - Madhyamavati

Did he sing Raga, neraval/swara for Rasali or just keerthana & Tani avarthanam?
Sriramkumar played for Srikantan previous day in bangalore also! So, that's the reason for short concert (1 hr 20 min) of Sri. Srikantan previous night in Bangalore? It was indeed true that he travelled to chennai previous night!
Sri RKS is indeed Sangita Pitamaha.. Looking at elderly and ripe musicians today, we also have Nedunuri garu who will equally can be called Pitamaha! Interesting that both of them are not living in TN....

Interestingly, Sri RKS signalled for Tani in the previous piece (Matangi), but Sri UKS waved it away saying "iva ellarum ungala ketka-t-tan vandirukka" ( all these people have come only to listen to you). Hence Rasali has no R/N/S but only Tani.
The hall was overflowing with people, some even sitting in the gap between the stage and first row, wherein a "Jamakkalam" was provided at the nick of time.
The concert was for exactly 2 hours.

However the thani that followed Aparadhamaula had the audience at the edge of their seats. The thunderous strokes, followed by gentle soothing ones and the speed and precision of Sri UKS and Sunderkumar had the audience on the edge of their seats

A couple of days back the AIR presented a featured programme by RK Srikantan as part of the Tyagaraja Aradhana celebrations. The programme was Utsava Sampradayam andDivya Naamam keerthanas sung by RKS. Oh , the songs were so wonderfully sung. Simplicity and grandeur marked the aritsts approach to the whole programme. Practice, indepth knowledge, measured deliveries and right bhaavam , marked the vidwans' presentation and it was a learning that all these go to preserve bothe voice and the music intact, age being no deterrent.
