11. pavamAna + mangalam - sowrAstram + shurutti

The concert was mostly dedicated to many compositions of one of the finest vidwan Shri GNB who is also a brilliant composer.

What I liked the least?

# A lovely rendition of a rare Ananda bhairavi krithi sAmagAna priyE by tooran was excellent, the essence of Ananda bhairavi was beautifully crafted by Tooran as a composer and presented very well by suryaprakAsh . A clean kalyANi rendition with lot of fast brighAs more resembling GNB style , particularly the neraval in the lines "sOmAnas suloconi"

# A clean renditon of a rare hindOlam krithi?? and the master piece slOkham ambikAm bhagavathim which was very detailed . THe light and popular no of GNB rAdha sametha krishna was also very pleasant.

# excellent tani by vasan and rAja rao . particularly like rAja rao's style where he transposes quite subtlely with his strokes when ghatam artist was also playing his round. Really impressive tani

# VV ravi was more perfect post kalyAni where he gave very good support.

What I liked the most?

# sukhi evarO especially for the way suryaprakAsh sang the entire kAnadA and equally impressive rhythm support with so many many strokes from srimushnam rAja rao . suryaprakash and rAja rao were superb in kAnadA

# The rAga alApanai in RTP that was sung more like gnb style in three distinct speeds of 4 minutes each with few minutes interlude of violin was excellent. The swara RagamAliga was awesome especially the hamsAnandi. The pallavi line was also popularized by Shri GNB.

# The pick of the day was the kApi nArayani , so many patterns and they were on spot manOdharamam neither resembling MMI or TVS or even his earlier rendition . Also I loved the alAapana in kApi nArayani which was quite rare in concerts.

What I didnot like ?

# The first 2 numbers , especially in hamsadhwani swaras , rAja Rao sir's mridangam and suryaprakAsh never gelled well , especially with a very high volume play and setup of mridangam.

# The play of V V ravi at times was bit too slow and had few shruthi problems .

# The pallavi excluding rAgamAliga was very short not in proportion with R and T.

Overall a very good to excellent concert close to 2 hours and 20 minutes. Wish another 20 minutes spent little more in kAnada and RTP must have lifted the concert much more. But unfortunately speech by Shri BM Sundaram about GNB ended half an hour late , though it suited my late arrival.

karuNAlaya nidhiyE (hindOLam) is by vEdanAyakam piLLai. It was popularized by GNB. Sanjay Subrahmanian sings it often.

Rajesh,
Surely you didn't mean to include the first heading for the first four entries!

Did GN Sir also follow the tradition of singing Anandabhairavi and kalyani right next to each other? I am told ARI did, and I have seen Nedunuri gAru do it everytime I heard him sing these two ragas.

Rajesh,
I meant the heading 'what I liked the least'. What comes under is all is such good stuff!

Maybe out of all the stuff he liked, this was the stuff he liked least?

That is Rajesh's style. :) (Remember Calmbodhi, Calmerbodhi.....)

What he meant is :

What I liked the most - Enjoyed this part the best
What I liked least - Enjoyed this but a little less than the above (But liked the same nevertheless)
What I did not like - No need to explain

I hope it is clear now :)

Cienu,
And I thought I knew Rajesh and his one-of-a-kind expressions!

That was cool, Cool: cake traces in paper cup ain't bad when all the cake is gone. Anyway, I wouldn't have had this morsel of cake had I not asked the question!

Rajesh,
I have a feeling Suryaprakash would have been amused too. Keep intriguing me and a few others. Style is the thing and rasanai you have in plenty, anyway :)
