What a wonderful concert it was!Mind blowing is one word!

I am still reeling under the after effects of a 4 hours concert. It was a such a delight to hear each and every song
Requests were pouring on and she had to announce she cant sing as it was already 10 30 pm and late.

Dr.Nithyashree was in full form from the word go with a brilliant Vanajakshi followed by sedate Shantamulekha

She did alapana for almost all songs with short neravals and swaram for all songs

Each song was a treat to hear and she sang with atmost concentration and melody.

The punnaga varali en neramum was so moving and touching as it left tears in my eyes.

The RTP was sung in tisra triputa taalam (kanda nadai) and she sang in pancha nadai as announced by her (I hope I am right), was really a treat to listen .

The quick change of raga in swaram was mind blowing resulting in a long round of applause when RTP concluded.

It was good to watch lot of young school students taking note of the ragas/songs and sitting till the mangalam.
It was like all of us were tied down in the unannounced 4 hour concert, considering the far off location of the hall which is in BARC with security checkings at gate and need to walk a lot for nearest auto stand.

She was ably supported by Mr Krishnaswami who showed in his apt melodious returns eventhough he was oboviously not in best of health.
His Charukesi,Saveri ,hemavati and Mukhari retrun were so wonderful.

Skandasubramaniam with his long experience for playing to Dr Nityashree was very prompt and in line with her.
Sivaramakrishnan was overshadowed by Skandasubramaniam with his returns.

It was a wonderful thoroughly enjoyable concert and one of my best concert for a long time.

The ? marks I have put shows my ignorance.May be other Rasika can help .I also took help of one of a senior rasika ,like the students , who helped us all with identifying the ragas generally .
Especially in RTP when Dr Nithyashree was batting like Dhoni or Yuvraj hitting for sixers all over the stadium .We were just left in awe whether to listen or to identify the raga.Still we missed on couple of ragas in RTP.

A concert to cherish for all of us.

I was wondering how she got time for so many items, with all the alapanais, neravals and swarams until I saw it was 4 hours. Good to hear that there are still some such concerts!

and the javali cheli nenetlu is said to be of Dharmapuri subbarayar

Looks like Smt Nithyasree has made such RTP rAgamAlikAs her trademark, be it in her Academy concerts of 2007, 2008 or elsewhere... I remember her singing a pallavi with the same lyric n the same tALa as above, in dharmavati, on Jan 1st 2008 in Parthasarathi Swami Sabha, Chennai... N sadA sandOsham tandiDum orE iDam tirupatti is in bAgEshri...

nice sequence of ragas....hope to see more like this from Smt Nityashri. She is after all DKP's granddaughter...she should not compete on who can sing louder, or more inane rasam songs. Not that she needs my certificate :), but....I have been scathing of her fairly often on here for that rasam song.....

Thanks for the informations on the composers and raga Lakshmansir ,Jigyaasasir and Revanthvsir.Sorry for my mistakes which I made.

The one thing I forgot to add was this is the only major concert hall in Bombay ,I guess, where you can sit in Jamakkaalam and enjoy the concerts, unlike other ac hall concert.

Has Nithyashree been conferred with a doctorate or she obtained by submitting a thesis.

Must have been a great concert. We have to appreciate the efforts she put in 4 hours and rendered so many kritis and thereby, not to disappoint rasikas. The advantage of BARC is- no one gets up and goes for bus/train because all are staying very nearby, within the BARC campus. The rasikas can even go and grab some food and come back !!!!

I did attend TNS, TVS and Bombay S' in this venue- They never disappointed and extended their concert duration by 30-45 minutes.

I hope the programme is still being conducted in that school.

When she performed for Andhra Music Academy last February it was aanounced that she receievd a doctorate for her work on Gopala Krishna Bharathi's songs. So it must have been conferred for her thesis

'kavari' mAnai- it is a species of deer which is supposed to give up its life even if one strand of hair falls from its body.
Is it 'mAnil' or 'mAnattil'?

Thank you Lakshman for adding the missing lines.
Punarvasu is right in her explanation. mAnaik kavari mAnaippOLe mAndar vAzhum nADu--countrymen who uphold honor.

I think mAnil = mAngaLil

My take on that line is "Just like (pOla) the kavari mAn amongst the deer family (mAnil), ours is the country/place (nADu) where women (mAdar) of such sensitivity live (vAzhum), they'd rather die than entertain any questions about their character."

Ravi,
You have a point there. It is mAdar then, not mAndar.
Now, it can be 'mAnil kavari mAnaip pOLe' which means: among deer, the kavari mAn or, for qualifying it--mAnai, kavari manaip pOla.

Usually I can remember if someone authoritative has said it, but I can't for this one. (Although i can't remember anymore, I assumed it was someone from DKP/DKJ school)
