gopAladasa was the signature of tiruvottriyUr Veena Kuppayyar; a great vaggeyakAra, who was thyagaraja's contemporary. they held each other in great esteem and kuppayyar's son tiruvotriur.thyagayyar studied under thyagaraja. it is said that thyagaraja sang venugana in kedaragaula at kuppayyar's madras residence in one of the gokulAsthami celebrations.

Father and son both were very talented composers of varnas and krthis.

adipuri is tiruvotriyur and Tripurasundari is the presiding devata. thyagaraja has composed a set of songs on this goddess.
