Sri. Sanjay Subhramanyam sang with gay abandon in the company of Sri. M. R. Gopinath (violin) and Sri. S. Sekhar (mridangam) - the audience cheered him on and he gave them generously of his artistry. Whether he sang brindavasaranga (soundararajam) or kanada (kantimati), he presented the very core of each raga. An evocative rendition of kaalaithookki (yadukulakamboji) contrasted with the racy interpretation of telisi rama (poornachandrika). The rapport was, however, total by the time he embarked on the begada alapana preceding nadopasana - the niraval and swaras at "tantri laya swara raga vilolulu"

This is on Youtube under Sanjay Subrahmanyan from Margazhi maha utsavam. Poignant lyrics and the longing DEsh - an introspective rendition that provides a total cathartic experience!
This is tuned and rendered by Dandapani Desikar - available somewhere at Sangeethapriya.

IMO, the only composition of his that lends itself to tunesmithing....
Sort of a 'must listen' for most parents....
No pressure on the child though - ADi kATTamATTAyA?, pADi kATTmATTAyA?, yAzh eDuttu inban SErka mATTAyA?, tirukkuraL iyambi kATTa mATTAYA?......
Wonder if the film version of this song (S. Rajeshwari) came before or after Sri Desikar's.
anrai nartamizh kUttu - inraiya bharatanATyam...
Nandagopal, Sudha has rendered this very well in one of her commercial releases.

Nandagopal,
Here is Smt. Nityashree Mahadevan's version of this song (with nAgasvaram and tavil as accompaniments?):

Desikar also sang this: http://www.dhool.com/sotd2/402.html

Not really, it was M. S. Rajeshwari: http://www.dhool.com/sotd2/149.html, and the proof of the pudding, if you willSvaapana wrote: The film version was actually sung by Jayalakshmi (of Radha and Jayalakshmi) in Or iravu.

Desikar also sang this: http://www.dhool.com/sotd2/402.html

blackadder: glad you enjoyed it. however, i'm not as yet aware of concert recordings being available. will certainly keep you posted if i learn of it.

Thanks for the review, knandago2001.
It was indeed a great honour for Sathya to play at the RR Sabha, more so to see a review in this forum.
blackadder, thanks for the wishes. You can listen to the recording of Sathya's concert at the RR Sabha here:

Recently, we had the rare privilege of listening to father and daughter duos in concert. Dr. Nithyasree Mahadevan (vocal) and Dr. R. Hemalatha (violin) who are, respectively, the daughters of Sri. I. Sivakumar (mridangam) and Sri. K.S. Rangachari (kanjira), gave a sterling performance indicating that they are twice blessed in terms of parental support / guidance and their roles as torch-bearers of hoary traditions. The recital revealed careful planning and a sincere attempt to blend the "modern"

anandabhairavi: Saketaraman may well be under the influence of his sibling.. I guess we have to wait and see!
The vocal performance of Hyderabad brothers - Sri. D. Raghavachari & Sri. D. Seshachari - was highly enriched by sensitive accompaniment of Peri Sriramamurti on the violin, by Sri. Venkataramanamurty on the mridangam and by Sri. Mandapaka Ravi on the kanjira. Their music lingered on"¦ long after the concert was over! The inclusion of a tamil padam in the program was a major surprise - Sri. Raghavachari rendered it beautifully. Here is how the concert progressed:
1. sami ninnekori - sri raga - adi
2. abhayambikaya - kedaragoula - khanda chapu (R,S)
3. sadachaleshwaram - bhoopalam - adi
4. vidajaladura - janaranjani - adi (R,S)
5. yagjnadulu - jayamanohari - adi
6. kantajudumi - vachaspati - adi (R,N,S)
7. aparadhamula - darbar - khanda chapu
8. sri lalite - bhairavi - adi (R,S,T)
9. ettanai sonnalum - saveri - adi
10. geetaarthamu - suruti - adi
The concert series was concluded with prayers to Lord Anjaneya, mangalaarati and the distribution of prasadam (vada).

Though I have heard many sing 'sadAcalESvaram, the brothers rendering it (many years ago) has so far been the best for me.
Nandagopal,
So nice of you to give us a taste of the Kokota concerts. Obviously, you have enjoyed attending them. You were supposed to come to Karnataka around this time. Was hoping to meet you and listen to you.as well.
