Mods, Could you join this thread with the other thread by Rajgalan about the same concert?
Hari,
Did not spot you there. Missed Rajgalan too (though I can't recognize him). Met a couple of other forumites there.

A nice concert, starting with a pet varNam of mine. Haven't heard itara daivamula that many times or have paid much attention to it, and Sanjay gave it character. It was a concert lasting more than three hours. Plenty of grit to it, what with that tODi and khAnmbOji.
The paTdIp RTP was sparkling. Wish he had sung more, but that was not possible with the number of pieces he had taken up to essay before PaTdIp. Two PD padagaLu, not one. However, the tamizh post RTP pieces were not as engaging as they are in Sanjay's concert. One can expect varying shades of emotions in them. Both bArati's and bArati dAsan's songs he chose are beautiful and romantic, but are similar in theme. A viruttam or something with more punch like brundAvanam iduvO? or a philosophical verse/song which he normally sings--eg: manamE kaNAmum, OHO kAlamE or a tiruppugazh or tiruvAi mozhi would have added another dimension to the last part of this concert (I don't take this part of the concert lightly either).
Nagaraj lent ample support which is not surprising. What surprised me was that (the always skilled but can be loud) mrudangam of Srimushnam Raja Rao was singing tonight. His masterly strokes were well appreciated. Our Rajashekhar who impressed ChennaivAsis no end this season was a bit less dazzling.
Among other excitements in the hall of comings and goings and turning of heads, TNS arrived around kAmbhOji time. He stayed almost to the end.

That will be nice, rajgalan!
A correction: I have only heard the song tunbam nErgaiyil and have not seen the movie Or iravu. Did not know that it was sung by a child in the movie, until today. Apologies for thinking that it was a romantic song! Considering that and knowing the beauty of the caraNams, I have to say that Sanjay DID provide variety in the tamizh songs he sang! Two purandara Dasara krutis were befitting the occasion (ArAdhana) and the venue (Purandara Bhavana). Have heard rAma nAma pAyasa in different rAgAs. Ananda bhairavi suited the verses and it was a nice prelude to the PaTdIP RTP after which he sang the sindhu bhairavi one.

You are wrong and right! 1. The desh song was not sung by a child. Jayalakshmi was the play back singer for Lalitha (Travancore sisters) 2. It was a romantic song with Akkinenei Nageswara rao in the male role!
regards

knrh05,
swaapana,
Thank you for the clip but my computer is not able to play it. Rajeshwari or Jayalakshmi? rshankar has posted the song and it is supposed to be Rajeshwari!.
Is it Lalitha? I do not know what to make out of it because in Sanjay's blog dedicated to Desikar, he converses with V. Sriram on Desikar and plays a radio clip (?) where you hear the man himself speak of how it took him two years to decide on the rAgam for the bAratidAsan song. He demonstrates it by singing it in aTANa first. That would scare the child away, he remarks. Then he sings it in dEsh saying, now that is the way in which you would ask a child, pleadingly.

Arasi,
The singer IS RAJESHWARI and not Jayalakshmi. This is what I had posted (with the links) in the thread where Nandagopal had reviewed Sanjay's concert for the RR Sabha in Kolkotta, but it is relevant here as well.

Here is Smt. Nityashree Mahadevan's version of this song (with nAgasvaram and tavil as accompaniments?):

Not really, it was M. S. Rajeshwari: http://www.dhool.com/sotd2/149.html, and the proof of the pudding, if you willSvaapana wrote: The film version was actually sung by Jayalakshmi (of Radha and Jayalakshmi) in Or iravu.http://www.musicplug.in/songs.php?movieid=6191
Desikar also sang this: http://www.dhool.com/sotd2/402.html
