Best of the lot- His surutti and the Kriti and Neraval. His Mukhari alapana was also very good.

What was missing ?- Tempo. Do not know why did he take ososi as main. It was the slow one and was nowhere near Ksheenami, rendered by him in Petachi Auditorium.

Any thing different ?-He informed before the main Kriti- "This is going to be the main. There will be Tani after this. Iam experimenting something or other (to make the raskias sit during tani)"

Yes, I do have the recording of both the concerts (second one from Atana, of course).

mridangam.k- Normally, TMK does not like his concerts including Tani to be uploaded in any of the known sites. I have personal experience with him where I uploaded his MA 2008 Tani with Karaikudi Mani and he raised objection. If you are a mridangist, I can even send you Trichy Sanakran Sir's Tani in few of the concerts during Dec. Superb Tani, of course.

hello grsastrigal...nice review..but, i don't think the rasikas need any special praising for sitting through the tani..we need to appriciate the percusionists too...

Regarding the concert at Raga Sudha Hall less said the better.All of low tempo.The first few phrases of all kritis were never heard despite amplification.All ragas were slow and he did not use his throat to articulate.Arun prakash was amere spectator.He finished his thani earlier than expected.Isn`t it childish to request rasikas to sit thru thani Avartanam at every one of his concerts.How many concerts of other musicians he attended and sat thru Thani.Rasikas out of necessity dont stay back for Thani.Most of the rasikas are old and have medical problems. Also thani starts beyond 8.30 p.m. and goes till 9 p.m.Nobody grudges thani and will not avoid if is done before 8 p.m.

Elders with medical problems do leave the hall even after a couple of pieces.Exodus is more before thani as it starts late and is long.Few people get out when Ramabadran plays thani.

This tani by arunprakash was not "so great" from the fact, there was an "ordinary" applause. But when TMK pointed out there was a "real" applause. As "sachi" says ther percussionists also to be appreciated, I disagree in this cae. People , who want to leave either to catch the bus or old age etc will be allowed to leave.

But "Tani" as SSI says "Tani sugam is Tanii sugam" Latter "Tani" he extends it so that it shows "sowkyam in real terms". Tamil people can define/understand this better.

I did not comment about Arun Tani in my review becuase I have little knowledge about "talakkattu and the intricacies"of tani. But when Trichy Sankaran or Karaikkudi Mani played, I felt magnetised.
We discussed at length about "Tani" in a separate thread. I don't want to comment further on this.
