Ragams and notes for the English Note

Hi

Can someone please provide the english notes ragams and the notation urgently (the one popularised by Sri T V Sanakaranarayanan). Prof Sambamoorthi is the composer is assume !!

Thanks Hari for the link. BTW, at the end of the page, it says "The composer of this nottuswara is unverified. ". Are there doubts about this being an HMB creation?

This is because there is no authentic reference anywhere that this piece is by HMB. Most books say that they believe that it was composed by HMB.

Whoa! All I did was paste from the link Lakshman gave. I just passed on one crumb from the great master's table!

I have to admit that I'm not overfond of this piece. I enjoyed it for its novelty value at first --- there is much better to be had by listening to Irish (I'm convinced the inspiration was actually Irish, not English) folk music.

Maybe I wouldn't go quite as far as Dr. John Marr, who told me the piece was utterly devoid of any musical quality! But then, nor can I claim any of his expertise, knowledge or experience.

The intrinsic value of it? Well, for a traditional tamizh person, eating brown sugar based desserts like kozhukkaTTai, appam and atirasam (you would know at least one of those yummies--let's call them CM), it is like eating those 'from the shop' pink and green stuff (band music) which look novel. I remember that in my grandmother's and my mother's days, band music for a wedding procession was fa..ncy! Even for HMB, it would have been a diversion composing this jig (?). Yet, no one can put life into it as MMI did! It always grabbed my attention when he sang it in a concert!

I have to admit that it grabbed my attention recently when sung in a concert by Suryaprakash. Took me completely by surprise, as I had thought it never would again.

I do not know either why Dr. John Marr would characterize this piece as utterly lacking in musical quality. It is definitely easy on the ears and instantly catches attention. Nick, if you can find links to Irish folk music along the same vibe, that will be interesting to listen to.

In the Ata thala shankarabaranam varnam, the last charanam has similar 'English/Irish Note' like passage. ( http://www.esnips.com/doc/e4026192-13a0 ... ame_varnam )

I am curious if that last charanam is the inspiration for HMB for his English Note.

The notes given above dont seem to be correct. when I listen to the performance of Sri.Mani iyer/prince rama varma - what they sing is something different.
