The Hindu is the only newspaper known for its yeomen service towards the field of Carnatic music. But these days i find that the paper is losing its standards. The errors in the friday review are really pathetic. I had been reading this since 2006 and in most of the concerts i see that the errors are integral part of the review. Earlier i used to think that the newspaper must have some flaws just because everyone commits mistakes. But week by week i feel these errors are something which the newspaper should recitify..!!
The scene in Hyderabad is always pathetic. Carnatic music here is sung and taught as to show off or make money. I dont mean to offend anyone but i talk about what i have seen. But thanks to the sabhas that they organise such wonderful concerts and keep the going of music really great. But the reviews written are absolutely meaningless. From a source i got to know that the reviews written are not by the people who attend these concerts. They just get the song list and write the reviews. I mean.. why should one review the concerts this way? Its absolutely meaningless. You dont even know what the artistes sing but u just pen down the stuff. absolutely pathetic..!!
Late Sri B R C iyengar, a man who was the only one who could give proper reviews for hyderabad. He expired last month and the situation went further worse. I see that after his death the concert reviewing scene went below the limits.
I believe that there is absolutely no need to write such reviews. I feel that they can stop giving info about the concerts rather than giving wrong info...
Here i give the link fo today's edition

here please look at sowmya madam's concert review. The song Janaki Ramana is in Sudhdha bangala is the information whereas sudha seemanthini is the one which was sung. She sang neraval for Mukhari krithi and here the great critric says " Neraval was at its best" The krithi was enthani nee varninthu where as here it is printed as enthani nee pogadu... Well former means " How much can i describe?" whereas teh later says "How much can i praise" I dont think we have any rights to change the krithi composed by great saint like thyagaraja. She did not sing any bhajan in peelu that was a sadasiva brahmendral's song. Well just because the song starts as Bhajare Yadunatham i dont think you can call it a bhajan.Or probably i am not at command to talk about this
In the same link Sri Malladi brothers concert review has been given Vakulabharanam becomes Vakulabharanamu well...this is english nespaper and i dont believe telugu vibhakthi prathyayams should act on name of the ragam. And E ramuni nammithino becomes A Ramuni nammithivo..The former means "Which Rama did i believe in?" the latter sats " that Rama is the one you must have believed"

Concert of SMt.Kamala Ramani has a song "Niravathi Sukha dayani" as far as the little knowledge i have the krithi in ravichandrika is "Niravadhi sukhada" The great critic once again showed his brilliance changing the gender. Me valla gunadosha has become neevvalla gunadosha.. well thats okay anyway

Sri Vijay Siva began his concert with raga Saveri varnam. They made it navaragamalika.Sri balasubhramanyaya becomes sri balasubhramanyam. Though these are petty mistakes they are indeed mistakes right?

In this concert of Hyderabad sisters, Tarunam idhamma in gowlipanthu has been published as manipravala krithi. Its clearly a tamil krithi. And Krishna nee begane the popular number is by Sri Purandaradasar s what the review says

Vedavalli mami's concert where she rendered "Chalamelara O raghava in margahindolam " Probably the critic got confused between "Marukelara O raghava" and "chalamelara saketha rama" so he created a hybrid version. Poor thyagaraja must not have known this. The violin accompanist is charulatha ramanujam where as here it was mentioned as charumathi ramachandran, the renowned vocalist who is a disciple of M L V amma. Simply disgusting..!!

I guess Ranjani mala comprises of Ranjani,Sri Ranjani,Megharanjani and Janaranjani

Priya sisters sang Anurenu paripoorna not Alivelu paripoorna... Poor Annamacharya would commit suicide if he gets to know the amount of change his lyrics underwent

Kaayrohanesham becomes Kaayarochanesham
http://www.hindu.com/fr/2007/02/23/stor ... 120300.htm
Famous Gayatri girish who is a vocalist turns into Geetha Ganeshan who is a bharatanatyam dancer...
And sadly this is a review written by Sri B R C Iyengar

Priya sisters began their concert in hamsadwani amd krithi was Karunaiseivai but here its given as a song in hindolam
this is just a part of it apart from hundreds and thousands of spelling errors and information errors.
I really think this problem needs a solution...or else the news paper should stop giving reviews
Friday review Hyderabad edition full of errors
