The Tunga river flowing by Shringeri has fewer bends than the long queue that snaked its way to the stage where Chi. RK ShriramKumar and his bride Sow. Akila greeted guests at their AVM wedding reception in Chennai this evening. I remained in the line through three kRtis and the tani Avartanam before being able to meet the newlyweds. With all the musicians, rasikas and sabha people in attendance, it appeared as though the 2009 music season had been advanced ten months. The venerable couple RK Srikantan and Smt. Maitreyi Srikantan presided over the occasion, VVS and J Vaidyanathan performed delectable music, and Mrs. YGP looked on benevolently as another of her illustrious PSBB alumni celebrated this auspicious rite of passage. A lovely evening indeed: very best wishes to the couple!

vainika,
you have described the scene well. It is expected; for is he not THE SRK (crowd puller) of CM?
I really liked the way you measured the time it took you go to the stage and greet the couple- 3 kritis and one tani avartanam. No one would have considered that an exodus during 'a tani'.

It was a wonderful evening with a 'red carpet' of the creme de la creme of music present to bless the happy couple. Among our members I was very happy to meet vainika briefly and to run into rbharath several times during the course of the evening. Vidvan Sri Suryaprakash was also amongst the guests and it was very nice to spend a few minutes with him.
Sri VVS was in sublime, majestic form - a beautiful kharaharapriyA had vidvans Sangita Kala Acharya Sri PSN, Sangita Kalanidhi Sri MSG and Sangita Kalanidhi Sri TNK in raptures. A lovely moment was when Sri TNK walked into the hall, the moment Sri VVS caught his eye, he stopped playing, raised his hands above his head, and said 'Ippo naan innam vasikkaNama?'
Congrats again to the newly married couple - with blessings and good wishes from so many great musicians, and the support of Smt. Akila, no doubt Sri Shriramkumar's sublime music will continues rise to even greater heights.

I understand Smt.Akhila is an optometrist working for Shankara Netralaya; may be a musician too; do not know. Read it in one of the tamizh magazines.
(I am sure she must be having keen eyes
and ears for music)
