I was listening to MV Ramana's talk.

Surprised to see he says amrthavarshini was the only new rAga Muttuswamy Dikshita composed as an innovation (not available in granthas from Venkatamakhi's tradition)

But, amRtavarShini is mentioned and described in Muddu Venkatamakhi's rAgalakshaNa appendix to CDP.

I have a new broadband supplier/plan --- and can download at last (without it taking a week).

Have downloaded the lecture, although I haven't listened to it yet, I have sampled the beginning and want to congratulate you on the quality: it is a great recording!

Also esnips seems to work well.

SAme here, incidentally...MTNL/BSNL zindabaad! I get almost 200kbps downloads now (when I am in town that is!)...most private providers (who shall have to go unnamed) are pathetic...my last service provider gave speeds of less than 10kbps charging almost the same amount of money as MTNL

BTW, what are typical upload speeds that you can get in India and how much does it cost? I heard BSNL has, in the past few months, cut the costs making AIR TEL more expensive. Nick, did you move to Airtel recently? Is that for quality of service reasons? Sorry for the detour from the main topic of the thread.

Dear COOL, All's well that ends well Thanks for uploading the proceedings of the evening .'WONDERFUL ARRANGEMENTS, A VERY NICE HALL. though a little distant from the city, which probably might be the reason for the absence of many members. Should I contribute something towards sharing the expenses (mainly hallrent, mike arrangements ,snacks) waiting for the next meet .. good luck, gobilalitha

Of course there were no mikes. Would have been better for hearing despaired poor souls like me. But that would have spoilt the serene atmosphere , ambience and the heavenly bliss. gobilalitha

vasanthakokilam, BSNL's customer service has been very poor since I moved house, and there have been numerous problem days. 256K is sufficient for browsing, but not really for anything else. I thought that, for speed, Airtel's packages were better than BSNL. I paid 750 for BSNL's 256K, with no download cap. I now pay 1199 for Airtel's 2Mb; it only includes 15Gb/month traffic, but I am not going to be a big downloader anyway; not like the youngsters with their films, music, games.

Upload on my AIrtel plan is about 512 --- on BSNL is was 64Kb, no better than an old modem. It makes a big difference when emailing a few photos to a friend.

Download speeds I actually achieve on the Airtel can be over 200KB/sec, compaired with 20-30 on BSNL.

Their customer service seems more professional; when I had a problem I got to speak to a technically well-informed person almost immediately. Better than BSNL's "Somebody will [not!] call you within 24 hours".

It's only been a couple of weeks. I know Airtel are not all Angels; my wife has enough problems with her cell-phone service. We'll see!
Sorry for the detour from the main topic of the thread.
Shall we rejoin the others? :D

I am paying 1500 per month for my MTNL connection. Airtel does not cover my area.

MV Ramana has sent in this reply to your uery in Post no 102

"Thank you. I was not aware of this and stand corrected. But it only
goes to further substantiate my point that Dikshitar was more
interested in resuscitating old ragas and less interested in
experimenting with new scales."

Yes, That is 100% true.

I just finished listening to the audio of BengaLooru meet. Ramana's speech and the Q&A are quite informative. Enjoyed very much listening to the singing by Iswarya, Charulatha, Sandhya Dharani, Ramani Shankar and S. Shankar. Thanks.

Thanks for the response Sir....

this is Sandhya Dharani...not Sandhya Dharini :-)

Anyway, thanks for the feedback.
