this evening, ranjani and gayathri sang at Anantha padmanabha kovil, gandhinagar, chennai. The concert started at 8.00 p.m, so i could listen only to a few songs. The songs that i could listen to are:

1. sakala jana bala ninne - atana - purandarasar

2. ne vinduveda muddu ra - karnataka behag - thyagarajar

3. alapana in poorvikalyani followed by ksheerasagara sayi - papanasam sivan

4. ranga puravihara - brindavana saranga - dikshithar

5. bodhendra shayinam - kuntala varali

6. raga alapana in thodi.

It was a wonderful experience listening to them.

The thodi kriti sung was "Kaddanu Variki".

Something that struck me tonight as also the previous time I heard them during the season was a noticeable change in the way they use their voice and also the mike, esp. Gayathri. May be they have taken some voice culture training and are on the way to becoming film playback singers - a la Bombay Jayashree :-)
