Smt. Sivapriya Krishnan gave a performance for Asthika Samajam , Tiruvanmiyur on 4th March.
I had heard her, nearly 8 months earlier at N S T S S Nanganallur and was impressed with her music. Ofcourse, one cannot but be, for her gurus were A S Panchapakesa Iyer, Balamani and now Smt. R. Vedavalli . whom Sri Narasimhan , in his speech, referred to as Gnana Saagaram.
The raga essays of Vachaspati (Ennadu Nee) and Karahapriya ( Nee Samanam Evaru) were in the well laid familiar path of traditional classicism. Neraval and Swaras were impressive. Her deep husky voice, in fine trim on that day , made a deep impact. The sallies in the upper octaves ,especially, were arresting.
It was not a surprise that, as a true disciple of Vedavalli, she sang Yaro Ivar Yaro in Saveri.
Rahul' s play made it very clear that he was a disciple of M. Chandrasekaran. He impressed with his sweet accompaniment. Bharadwaj provided lively support on the mridangam.
A satisfying concert of values.
