7B.mAyee sAvare- sindhubhairavi - ST
8. mangalam

I arrived late , but the concert started at 07:30pm , because of the speech and cd release function overshooting the timelimit. The usual mylApore crowd was at its best , when there is a late start the biggest casualty is perhaps the musicians have to cut short a lot .

When there was a Close to 100% attendance :
With dignataries like Prof TNK, chitraveeena ravikiran and V V sundaram, there was close to 100% attendance in sAstri hal for the first two numbers. Suryaprakash started in devamruthavarshini and settled well , what a krithi and I guess the best way to sing this is to sing like semmangudi mAma. The kedaram krithi by shri sampath kumar was very nice and the singer did a very good job , with a little sprinkle of swaras.Exodus started

When there was close to 70% attendance :
SuryaprakAsh elaborated rAmapriyA , the rAga of late is just slipping my head , I do know it is prati rAga equivalent of chakravAkham and I got it only after about few minutes . The krithi and the rendition was excellent especially the neraval appeared very apt. Followed with a mini viruththam in nAyaki and came up with a very good rendition of MD's masterpiece. It was 08:45 and exodus was heavy and that was where the concert was perfect.

When there was just 40% attendance:
SuryaprakAsh launched into a very fine alApana in keeravAni and it was very detailed , the krithi perhaps could have been more finer , but the best portion was the swara kalpana manOdharmam in keeravAni for close to 14 minutes. With the swaraprasthAnam king Prof TRS being there for the whole concert , his swaras had more shades of his style , kind of some quick to and fro return with the violinst and then one long swara without much violin return for close to 4 minutes was excellent .

There was another shri sampathkumar krithi in hindOlam sung , this krithi is rhythymically heavy . SuryaprakAsh did not deliver it that well unlike the other two krithis of sampathkumar ,he referring little bit of notes and there was quite a few rhythmic variation , easwaran could not anticipate well ahead . However they did a few swara passages where there was mridangam and kanjira return with the vocalist . There was a no tani . Rest was just good.

Overall it was nice hearing few new numbers of shri sampath kumAr, especially to hear the ease in which suryaprakAsh sings few new numbers of sampath kumAr as though he is singing for years . All 3 of the accompanist were excellent ,for the record sAstri hall being acoustically too loud, easwaran played perfectly. The chemistry of BSP-ME was excellent.

The compositions of shri sampath kumAr appeared very musical .The first in kedaram was dedicated to vishnu of srimushnam, the ramapriyA was kumbakOnam sArangapani, and the parthasarathim is triplicane , I think all are divya desha sthalams. Please buy the cd apart from gurucharan and suryaprakAsh few sishyas (I think all 4 bhargavi, anahita ,deepika and apoorva are sishyas of chitraveena ravikiran, not sure though) have sung very well , they all seemed to have a great voice.

It was nice to talk with shri sampath kumar, I just felt like he must have been born a century back , it is upto lot of musicians to take up this regularly in concert , almost all krithis was sanskrit heavy and musically well done.

bharath,
kharaharapriya -- ;) equals devamruthavarshini , I intently meant it that way , perhaps it slipped many of you. ;)
