Thanks srinivasrgvn for the link. I did not know about this 'other' begada varnam. It is wonderful. I seached for other versions and found DKP and Mani Krishnaswamy versions. I foune the Mani Krishnaswamy's rendition to be very good especially her consistently proper intonation of 'ma' and 'ni' of Begada. It is here: http://sangeethamshare.org/sunil/shyama ... aswami.mp3 DKP's excellent rendition is here: http://sangeethamshare.org/ksj/D-K-Patt ... Begada.mp3

The last charanam of the above Begada varnam is set up with the usual higher degree of difficulty but with a triple coat paint of Begada. Jusr great.
Are there others varnams of Shyama Shastri that are sung in concerts?

srinivasrgvn, thanks for that link.

I am curious if recordings exist of other varnams by SS. If someone knows readily that will be great. Otherwise I will search around based on the information in the above link. Thanks.

mAyammA in bEgaDa is just a kriti, not a varNa.
The only varNAs of Shyama shastri are:
nA manavini in saurASTra and nIvE gatiyani in kalyANi.

Lakshman, so this 'Dayanidhe Mamava' varnam is not by SS? Whose varnam is this? Thanks.

The above link that srinivasrgvn provided also refers to "sAmini rammanavE Anandabhairavi/aTa" as SS's varnam.

It certainly is listed as a varnam in Smt. Vidyasankar's book on SS works.

I missed sAmini rammanave and dayanidhe. These two are also varnas. Sorry about the mistake.
