Smt Gayathri Girish - Vocal
Shri BU Ganesh Prasad - Violin
Shri J Vaidyanathan - Mrudangam
Shri Anirudh Athreya - Kanjira
Date : March 16, 2009
Venue : Asthika Samajam, Thiruvanmiyur
1) Chalamela - Nattaikurinji Pada Varnam - O
2) Daya Juda - Jaganmohini - Shyama Sastry
3) Shri Venkata Girisham - Surutti - ANS
4) Aalokaye - Charukesi - Narayana Theerthar - O
5) Ninnu Nera - Panthuvarali - AS
6) Amba Neelayadakshi - Neelambari
7) Sharavana Bhava Guhane - Kannada
8) Balagopala - Bhairavi - ANST
9) Smaravaram - Jog
10) Chuttum Vizhi - Ragamalika
11) Thirupathi Venkataramana - Hamsanandhi
12) Mangalam
It was a concert with a really nice list. The Jaganmohini Krithi of Shyama Sastry was sung well. The Swarams in Surutti were good. Hearing a detailed Surutti after quite some time. The violinist’s responses here were brilliant. Charukesi is always soothing to me, personally. Neelambari was leisurely and touching with its elaborate Gamakams. The Kannada piece with some rapid Chittai Swarams was a good filler. The Bhairavi Alapanai was done emotively. Good choice of Krithi for main. Mention must be made of some of the nice Swaram patterns laced with a bit of Kanakku sung at two Eduppus - Neela and Sharira. The Thani led by JV was very good. Anirudh on the Kanjira was excellent in his replies. The violinist did an exceedingly commendable job throughout. Post main there was the usual speech by Narasimhan Mama. The Ragamalika was good.
Overall, a nice concert with a fine list.

There we go again into GG bashing mode.
A nice list should be a "standard" list. Ariyakudi's Kutcheri Format is a "standard" format. What is wrong in saying that a concert list was nice. And Sathej has been with us for a long time
In fact the boot is on the other foot.
It is amazing how a few "member/s" in this forum are on the look out to denigrate this particular singer. I have gone through their posts and am amazed at the similarity of their background, language etc. I can name them for the benefit of the other rasikas (However I am restraining myself from doing so based on CML's request in a different thread not to name).
BTW, there was a fairly critical review by rajeshnat on this singer (link below) and the criticism was done very well. Surely no one will object to such reviews.

But then coteries formed to target someone are a different matter altogether.

Fully agree with Cienu.
GG has had more than her share of baseless and unsubstantiated criticism in this forum, despite being one of the best and most creative vocalists presently.
In any case, she continues to give excellent concerts (by the account of Sathej and of Mannarkoil Balaji sir in another post).

Do Not Feed the Troll:

And god knows we have quite a few lurking around these days. It would be good for the sake of everyone's sanity to adopt the DNFTT rule when dealing with them and letting them die a natural death from neglect.

As Cienu has stated earlier , all the posts condemning her performances for no reason other than personal prejudices seem to be the handiwork of one and the same rasika(?) under different names . .we wish her all the best and request her to contiue her good work undaunted by unhealthy criticism gobilalitha

Madam Arasi
we dont need fresh air madam .. since music is as fresh as ever in our system as we are breathing music, walking music and living music ... unlike others who just try to divert threads just for the sake of it and also make unsavoury remarks and try to vindicate an artiste. We are open hearted, open to suggestions and constantly striving for improvement. They have to go out of this forum or thrown out of this forum which maintains high standards of constructive criticism based on logical reasoning and empirical knowledge backed up by experiential wisdom.
