maharAjapuram rAmachandran@NGS (Mini) on Mar 26th,2009
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Organized by saraswathi vaggeyakkAra trust dedicated to musical trinity krithis only.

1. gaNarAjenA (R ,S)- Arabi - MD
2. pahimAm shree rAjarAjeshwari(S) - nAttai -SS
3. toli jaNma (R N S)- bilahari -T
7 mins alApanai ,3 mins violine, 3 mins neraval and 2 mins swaram

4A.sOunderarAjam(R S T) - brindAvana sArangA - MD
8 mins alApanai ,4 mins violine, and 6 mins swaram
4B. tani for 6 minutes

Incidentally shri rAmachandran has a booming voice and always sings emulating his thAtha in singing with minimal breadth cycles and his illustrious dad in voice sareeram. What a start for this Arabi superstar , with a dashing run to the swaras finish line. nAttai generally comes first than Arabi follows but the ulta sequence was beautiful just gave another run to swara finish line in nAttai, little longer giving more space to both the accompanists who continued to dazzle

The brake never was applied in bilahari too , this toli janmA must suck so much air out of anyone's lungs he sang beautifully with racy neraval and swaras. At last the brake was touched partly , his voice sareeram in full control in equalling his dad to render a clean and beautiful main in this beautiful rAga "brindAvana sArangA" . The rAga alApanai was more in madhyama kAlam , and the swaras were both in madhyamakAlam and durita kAlam, all perfect with the krithi rendition impeccable.

The concert from 07:10 to 08:25 was excellenct to outstanding from the start all the way till the main. Unfortunately since the main got over little early ,then it was every 5 minutes once one tukkada till 9 Pm. Liked all of them especially the utsava sampradAya krithi in shankarAbharanam madhyama shruti (I dont get it till now as to why it is not called kurinji , this madhyama shruti bouncers always escapes me ). Incidentally I have heard this haridAsulu atleast 5 to 6 times every time is identical rendition with him
repeating one rAga alApana phrase in between in the lines "krishna nee begane bArO"

Both the accompanists were excellent to outstanding , especially nAgai murali's impeccable shruthi sense in brindAvana sAranga was top class, mannArgudi easwaran was perfect throughout he sacrificed to play a short tani as the concert started late

5. celimini jalajaakshhu(RS) - yadhukulakAmbOdhi-T
6. naNNu vidachi - reetigowlai -T
7.ehi aNNapoorNE -punnAgavarAli - MD
8. seethAkalyA vaibOhamE - shankarAbharanam -T
9. haridAsulu - yamunAkalyAni - T
10.pannaga sayanA - madhyamAvati - MD
11.pavamAna

Overall all three musicians hailing from the trinity belt of antha kAlathu thanjAvur jillA was always there. Overall a very good to excellentconcert.

Are you sure that this was nAttai and not janaranjani? Is that a different song composed by Ramaswamy Sivan, I think.

AFAIK, there are 2 pAhimAm srIs- one in nAttai (SS) and one in janaranjani (Ramaswamy Sivan, as you've mentioned, suresh).

I always thought Pahi mam (janaranjani) was a composition of Maha Vaidyanatha Sivan, ramaswamy sivan's brother. But I guess there always exists some confusion as they both used the mudra "guhadasa".

Bhaktha, I had never heard of Maha Vaidyanatha Sivan being the composer of the janaranjani krithi! Yeah, it would certainly be confusing since both used the same mudra.

This was a trinity thematic concert , as bilahari has mentioned there are two pahimAm shree rAja rAjeshwari, shri rAmachandran sang the shyamAsAstri version.

BTW with respect to the other pahimAm shree rAja rAjeshwari , there are few who call it as rAmaswamy shivan , but in generally many refer maha vaidyanAtha sivan (Iyer). Is there any definite conclusion there?

Can someone confirm with me the raga of Sitakalyana Vaiboghame? I know it's supposed to be Sankarabharanam but a part of me keeps singing it in Kurinji. Is it sung in Kurinji also?

At the end of the concert , when I asked shri rAmachandran, he told me he sang in the shankarAbharanam madhyama shruthi . I was thinking it was kurinji only.
