T M Krishna - Vocal
Nagai Sriram - Violin
Trichy Shankaran -Mrudangam

T M Krishna scores a century in "Aaap Ki Pasand " concert amidst fireworks from Shankaran and with the excellent support of Nagai Sriram

IMHO TMK scored a double century in last year SIFA concert

Can't wait to hear the list of San Jose's pasands. You mean to say all the songs he sang were requests? Wow! Can't imagine such a concert!

It was a very enjoyable concert. There were lots of requests :) But don't know how many he actually managed to sing. Initially TMK said he would announce each song for the benefit of those who may not be attending many concerts. This cause some laughing moments in the concert - After concluding a very nice AlApane of mukhAri, he announced " This was improvisation of rAga mukhAri, and I will follow it up with a composition, because I have not made up my mind yet" - ElavatAra was a wonderful experience! The wonder with which Tyagaraja has sung came out very well, and I could not stop myself from trying a translation of the song, as soon as I came back.

Hmm, not able to edit previous post.

Vasanta rAga and tAna both were excellent. Pallavi was "sharavaNa bhava guhane Shanmugane dayAparane" set to trishra triputa 2 kaLe. I haven't heard it b4, but seems it is a well known pallavi. Ragamalika swaras in aThANa, bhairavi, asAvEri, budhamanOhari and pUrvikalyANi. I guess there were requests for bhairavi ( kAmAkshi amba specifically, since he wove the svara of the last charana into the kalpana swara - But I wonder who asked for kAmAkshi ambA after one hour dose of mukhAri ;)? ) and budha manOhari ( as krishna specifically mentioned).

There was tani-Avartanam for mukhAri as well as RTP.

Behag, followed immediately by pibare rAma rasam in yamunA kalyANi was not the best choice if you ask me, but tell me who would ask me :P ?

Overall, a very satisfying concert.

The RTP appeared to be a request raga also. TMK announced "I am going to sing an RTP in the raga .." and then appeared to forget which raga he decided on, fumbled through the chits and announced "Vasantha" to much laughter. Interestingly, I could see him practice the pallavi silently - tapping his foot for tala and mouthing the words - during the long sections of violinist's replies to ragam and thanam.

I thoroughly enjoyed the concert. Bhuvini Dasudane was sung slowly and beatifully, and with neraval only. The navavarnam was sung extremely slowly - I loved the pallavi but got totally lost in the charanam - couldnt make sense of the complex and long melody at the slow pace - and it seemed TMK got lost once too, he restarted a line with a different melody.

Mukhari and Vasantha were highly enjoyable as well.

Living in the US, I have listened to TMK once every 2 years or so for almost 15 years and its been a great pleasure to see his music improve so much in every way over the years. His voice has spectacular range - he touched lower Sa in Mukhari and upper Ni during the RTP. It can be forceful and also gentle. He carries of the magnificent Kamalamba Navavaranam and also a tender song like Irakkam Varamal. A complete artist and he showed off all his facets today.

Yes, I forgot to mention about the navAvaraNa kriti - I liked it very much. TMK said in the AlApa he used chatushruti rishabha only in the prayOga
'g r g m' as prescribed in the SSP.

I wish it had been Arun Prakash on the mridangam especially for the slower pieces like the Navaavaranam.
