K.R. Saranathan - April 19, 2009 - Chicago Concert Review

This is the first time Shri Saranathan came to USA. So many people might not know him. He is well known in India for conducting and leading Thyagaraja Aradhana's at Thiruvaiyaru and other places. He is a second generation disciple of Madhuri Mani Iyer. I forgot his guru's name although he mentioned. He holds several titles, some of which are Swararaga Saragnar, Isai Chudaroli, Gana Laya Choodamani, Asthana Vidwan of Ahobila Mutt and Kanchi Kama Koti etc.

We went in blank into this concert as we never heard him. We were in for a very pleasant treat. He invoked memories of Madhurai Mani iyer and gave a splendid concert so pure in tradition and classism. Inbetween the concert for each song he was interacting with the audience and giving some introductions, like how St Thyagaraja calls a ragam Pantuvarali and how St. Diskhitar calls the same ragam Kamavardhini etc. I will be processing the video formats and loading in You tube shortly for all of you to enjoy. The concert was very well recieved and made the grandson of a yester year Veena Vidwan M.S. Kalyana Krishna Bhagavatar give a emotional speech.

He is the disciple of Sethurama Iyer ,whose guru was madurai mani iyer.
